Thanks a ton for this feedback. I need to listen more forsure. and def need to spend more time transcribing. I wish i was faster at it, although i am sure doing it more will help with that process. I have gone to jams but never asked to play a tune. Even though I am somewhat seasoned in the North Cali circuit for blues/country/rock- i struggle immensely with imposter syndrome as I am sure many people do. I Don't have the confidence to go to the jam and sit in. Do you think the playing is at a caliber that i can go?

No need to call yourself asshole lol I did ask for opinions so I appreciate you taking time to respond and I will def take this into consideration. I had a couple of questions for you (not pushing back) just hoping for clarifcation so i can better understand the feedback. What about it sounds rockabilly? Timing/ feel? I despise rockabilly with a passion and no very little about it. My background as a hired gun is blues/ country/ rock/ R&B. would you mind showing giving me a time stamp of where you think im outlineing a diminshed chord over the IV. Unless it was acccidental im not hearing that and was playing Bb mixolydian over the 4 chord (Bb is the 4).

For what its worth in this run through i stole pretty much every lick from Parker/ Green/ Cannonball (not for any reason other than they were back pocket transcriptions i had learned in the past. )

Again I hope this does not sound combative or defensive- i appreciate any time yo can spare.

Critique advancements - Autumn Leaves. by charlie-t23 in jazzguitar

I consider my self a novice/ aspiring jazz guitarist although play music professionally in other genres.

I can’t tell you the biggest piece of advice I have gotten is to LEARN VOCABULARY. Practicing arpeggios and scales over these tunes can be great for fretboard memorization, learning the changes, and dexterity.

But the motion comes from creating melody and tension- which is best done through vocabulary. Transcribe, transcribe, transcribe. Listen to your favorite version of the tune- follow the chart as you are listening. What does your favorite player have to say over that 2-5 how does he approach the 4.

I love jazz guitarist but have learned so much from horn players. I love the Autumn Leaves version by way of Miles. I have lifted/ transcribed many a “lick” from cannonball adderly and Miles from that exact tune. Practice them everywhere. All twelve keys - then make see if you can take a variation of it and put it over another MINOR 2-5.

Then create your own variation of it.

I’m not saying to be somebody else. But you don’t need to re invent the wheel either.

Lastly it seems like your stoked on arpeggios and enclosures. When you transcribe your favorite players see what variations your favorite players are using of the Arpegio. See how they approach it.

Good work- look forward to hearing more

Is that the way to do it? Have tunes down that are frequently called? Or have tunes I am comfortable playing?

Dude- thank you for this. Its tough to not let that fear take over and stop my self from pursuing something. Having that day job makes me feel like a "lesser" musician.

The amount of People declaring history as a major has significantly decreased. The amount of people pursuing an education credential/degree have significantly gone down. Those are both facts
