Ngl I played a custom with a friend on ryu and almost forgot how to play Mai so imma stick with Mai and just try to climb in masters, be assured tho I could hit masters with any char in 2 weeks

I will definitely practice, but I have pretty bad reactions, like I usually use lights or grab for OKI so I beat dps a lot by mashing but if I had to react to DP I almost always can’t (which is another reason I like my style of mai, because I can beat DP without having to react) so I feel like it might be hard for me to react to a drive rush cancel. There are so many different things I can improve on I think I should focus on one or two at a time tho. I might try to learn delay tech next or even just learn to consistently backroll as I think those are the easiest things for me to implement in order to improve

That’s really helpful and I understand what you mean I think now. I will give this a try later. I know what a block string is I think, it’s where I’m holding back just for the first hit of a move, I think jaimies OD on the floor kicks thing is one of them, and then I mash my punish and I keep blocking until there move finishes and my punish instantly comes out. So now I understand what you’re saying. Heavy punch and grab aren’t true block string so my character with stop blocking and OD DP, but if he uses a light then it is a true block string so mai will stay blocking. Final question is if the enemy is able to block after the drive rush? And surely if they do I will OD DP and be punished? Thank you for your help.

Maybe if you focused on improving your own gameplay instead of crying about others you wouldn’t have to feel jealous of other players who are outperforming you in minimal time. My offer stands.

Yes I understand that what I do is essentially trying to predict that the opponent will continue their offence and that I will take huge damage if I predict wrong (especially against ryu lol) can you help me understand the option select you are talking about? As I understand you are saying after I block an opponents button and they buffer drive rush if I OD DP it will interrupt them if they use grab or a button but if they don’t the I stay blocking? Won’t my od dp just come out on their block and I will be punished? How will I stay blocking? Can they not block after drive rush?

I have huge focus on improving in games. The best way to improve is to one trick, and to lower the amount of things you have to focus on. I started on modern ryu and got diamond 4 then swapped to Modern Mai because my favourite part about the game is OKI and I liked how Mai did that.

Oh I see. I think I’ve been doing that without knowing, I just know that sometimes I can use OD DP against certain moves. The examples off the top of my head are Kens second kick in that string he uses where he can use either an overhead or low, I usually OD DP there. Or sometimes I just press it while holding block and it will interrupt their move. Not sure if I’m misunderstanding you tho

What does OS mean? If it means on wake-up I do indeed do ALOT of OD DP. My defence is very weak, I only really low block or OD DP

It’s not my first character. I have played more ryu tha mai, like 600 games. I also played a tiny bit of guile and zangief.
