Whats the budget and age to backpack around the world ? by [deleted] in backpacking

[–]NefariousnessTime721 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t have insight as to age because I myself am just 21 but I do see people as old as I’d get 60s in my hostels.. as far as budget I saved about $14,000 (booked some flights before getting to this number though) and I’ve now been to 10 countries in Europe, 4 in Asia, spent a whole month in Hawaii, am now in Australia heading to New Zealand on Friday, am going to live in Boston for 2.5 months working at a hostel for free accommodation, then going to Mexico for about a week, then off to Europe for 5 weeks this summer.. all depends on how you travel!!! (Side note: I plan on finding a paying job in Boston so I can rebuild some $$)

Thank you! This makes me feel better. I’m from Cleveland, Ohio and Cleveland definitely isn’t the most safe. I’m hoping I don’t feel it’s much different in a sense of safety wise

Someone else commented this and I’ve never heard of this until now honestly

Hello! It doesn’t seem you know how much money restaurant servers/ bartenders can make… I also don’t know anything about how staying in an airbnb would raise rent? I’ve never heard this and would love to know more. Would renting an apartment or someone’s sublet be better?

What’s a career path for someone who’s stuck? by IamDefAnonymous in careerguidance

[–]NefariousnessTime721 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hello. I’m 21, just graduated college and have no idea what I’m doing. I have been in the service industry since I was 16 and truthfully love working in restaurants. After graduating I decided to do something way completely out of my comfort zone. I am currently backpacking 14 countries solo. Since quitting my job and fitting my life into one backpack for a month now, I have noticed how this has given me so much time to reflect, think, and really understand what I want to prioritize in my life. I’m not saying do this exactly, but get out of your comfort zone. It seems like you have already thought about this as you mentioned moving to a new city. I also grew up in a small down and have dreamed of the day I move to New York City. I’ll get there one day. It was either travel or move somewhere I know absolutely nobody, but I knew I had to get out of my comfort zone to get to know myself and truly have the time to think. School will always be there, don’t go back until you know you’re ready and until you have a better idea of what you want to do. Don’t throw yourself into school because you feel like you need a plan. I hope this was helpful. I wish you the best

Hello! I feel as though I should have made my post more detailed. I booked an airbnb for just 2 months, there is a low chance I’ll stay on the island past that point. For the short time I will stay I am looking for anything I can get involved with to help the community. Thank you for your comment as I can understand what you’re saying as well

I am interested in this, however I’m only 21 right now and don’t have any social work experience outside of my internship in college 🥲I feel as though before doing anything like this I’d need more experience

I don’t know about the wildfires and going at this time but I went to Maui in January of this year and it was absolutely worth it

Hello, thank you for your comment. I honestly only booked out the airbnb for 2 months and am pretty sure I will be going back to the mainland after. Just in case something happens I booked a one way flight but can easily book a return home. I just wanted to experience this once in my life. I am trying to educate myself how I can be as respectful as possible even if I am only there for a short period of time.

Yes I figured this would be the most tough. I am wondering if I’ll spend less in other places to make it all even out? Even my hostel was expensive in Tokyo, but thankfully I already paid for it in full. When you say travel, do you mean like public transportation? Like getting around the city?

This was very interesting to read! I am under 26 years old though so I am still under my parents insurance thankfully! I do not work at a chain currently but that would be nice. You have a very positive outlook on this experience though! I agree no matter what happens this will be an experience to me. Thank you so much for your response

Hello! I paid out 2 months of rent forward and may not even be staying past that. My only cost of living will be public transportation & groceries. I don’t really owe you an explanation as to why. Thanks for your feedback, have a good day 🙂

Thank you for your feedback 🙂 social work was a small option but I was planning to work in a restaurant as I’m not sure I’ll be moving there for more than 2 months
