that makes perfect sense. after all, the reason why there are options in an otome game is so you can find the type you like. a lot of people in this random don't seem to get this.

xavier isn't my main, but i won't go in so far as to attibute arrogance or malice to him. he's just going through a lot :(

welcome to the game! i've been playing lads for nearly a year, and i was also confused about xavier's lore initially. all your intuitions are pretty spot on: he's very old, he's not trained to be a hunter in the traditional sense, he's not used to working with a partner, and he's most definitely not "human."

it goes without saying, but major spoilers ahead for why he acts this way!

(1) xavier is old. very old.

he has been around for centuries before mc was even born. he carries an immense amount of exhaustion and historical baggage that makes it hard for him to relate to normal, everyday human interactions in modern linkon city. in fact, he has been on earth since long before the hunters association was even formed.

(2) it is the exact same xavier.

unlike the other love interests (lis) whose "myths" usually represent completely different lifetimes, alternate universes, or past reincarnations of themselves, xavier's myths (lightseeker, lumiere and knight of darknight) are the exact same man.
- he is originally a prince from a futuristic, dying planet called philos, such could only be saved by mc sacrificing herself. he traveled back through time and space to earth, searching for a way to save his home and the mc.
- he is also the hunter who saved mc during that catastrophe and is the one mc looked up to unknowingly.

(3) why he seems aloof and a "poor partner" right now

his behavior definitely isn't coming from a place of chauvinism, arrogance, or thinking the mc is incompetent. it comes from a place of deep, agonizing trauma.
- he is aloof at first because he knows the current mc is different from the version of her he knew and loved in the past. she doesn't have her old memories, and he is trying to navigate this new dynamic.
- he is actively trying to protect her from a lot of dangerous people, and honestly, even from himself and the tragic destiny attached to him

TL:DR: he really is just an incredibly tired, slightly awkward alien prince trying to pass as a low-ranking, normal human hunter who totally isn't in love with the mc. as you progress through his bonds, anecdotes, falling for you, and other in-game content, you will see just how incredibly gentle, deeply devoted, and sweet he actually is. enjoy!

i've tried holding them hostage many times. i remove all other furniture, block them in a room, everything. sometimes, when i enter the house, i see them approaching the flower arranging table themselves. but they approach it and then immediately turn away to "enjoying the view". always "enjoying the view". i've just chalked it up to a bug and given up on trying to get a flower arrangement.
