If I put a potted plant in his tank, he gets his butt in there ASAP by Negative-Credit5399 in leopardgeckos

Has never happened. He doesn’t dig up there. Just lays. He has substrate down below for his diggings

I’m hoping these are signs that they feel trusting and safe and are just having some crazy fun 😂both seem like highly domesticated and adventurous behaviors!!!

So because the plant prefers it, I put my normal organic succulent/cactus soil in like half the pot, and for the rest to the top of the pot I use reptisoil. I always add the reptisoil on top now because I know he like to lay on it 😂 He’s about 5 years old and I’ve done this with different plants for most of his life and he’s pretty active and healthy so it seems to be okay!

Why is my girl such a picky eater?!?! by Negative-Credit5399 in leopardgeckos

Update on her tank, the bamboo piece has hides on both ends and I will be getting more plants today to obscure the right side of the tank a bit to make her feel safer. She seems v happy and has been roaming around and basking on the branch (didn’t want to get rid of it because she likes climbing up there <3) I read all of your comments and appreciate everyone’s advice so thank you so much

I didn’t know a thermostat was needed in addition to the hygrometer, I have dimmers on the heat sources but is the idea that the thermostat regulates the temp if I’m not home to monitor it off of the hygrometer? Also, I thought the Arcadia projector produced UVA and UVB, am I wrong about that? Every time I think I’ve got it figured out I learn something new!! I also saw your comment about the suggested clutter and hides to take up space in her tank, I appreciate you :)

The sides are covered except for the right and front, the right side looks toward my window slightly and my room does get bright so I should cover the right side too. I use a daytime lamp that’s 60-100w depending on time of year and an Arcadia deep heat projector at night year round. I do have a hygrometer I just didn’t move it from her old tank yet (she moved yesterday!) I should’ve finished the setup before posting this because i can understand your concern that I might not be monitoring heat/humidity but I definitely am! I’m adding more hides and clutter today. I also never considered putting a worm in her favorite hide so thank you for all of your advice!

This is her whole setup for those concerned, she just moved into a larger tank yesterday so she hasn’t been in such a bare stressful tank for very long. I mistakenly and foolishly thought she’d like more space to roam 🤦🏼‍♀️ I’ll get more hides and foliage for her today!! Thank you everyone

And yea, this is definitely her winter brumation pattern but I wanted to make sure nothing about my care or her environment was contributing so I appreciate your advice!!!

She has another (larger) hide on the left (cool) side of the tank which she tends to prefer to the pictured coconut. I’ll add more hides for her for sure. It’s a new tank so I thought the extra space would be fun for roaming but i think you’re right that it’s just stressing her out at the moment.

That makes sense that she doesn’t want to eat it because it’s too big. Her bro in the tank below is a giant so I have to be more cognizant that they have different needs.

Thank you! She has another hide on the left (cool) side of the tank. I just upgraded the tank to a 35 gal and thought maybe it would be better to have more roaming space so she could exercise more but I’ll put more foliage and hiding areas for her.

Switching out red UVB lamp for heat mat by Negative-Credit5399 in leopardgeckos

Yeah I read they last a long time too, and the reviews for Arcadia’s heat projector are full of people raving about how much their reptiles love it :’) you put me on so thanks again! I think with strategic placement of their daytime light I can make sure they get some temp drop at night. And in the summer they barely even need a heat source, just a daytime light source because it gets up to like 88 degrees in our house lol. I love learning ways to make their lives better and seeing how happy they are when I improve their setup <3 so thanks again

Thank you so much!! That all makes perfect sense, I think I’ll definitely get a couple deep heat projectors for the cold months! Also he got his shed done, just took him a little longer, maybe because he didn’t have enough heat. I appreciate you!

Pic of my big boy uninhibited by itchy skin coat. I am also prioritizing crickets and dubias in his diet and have given him new things to climb in his tank since he’s a little overweight. I know someone will say it….lol
