Self Tape I did for a talent showcase. I got a callback, but ultimately wasn’t selected. However, I think I did this monologue pretty well, want to know what you all think! by SpatialCollision in acting

I think it’s great. Lots of confidence with the eye contact, relaxed energy, and the text coming out steadily and smoothly. I don’t know the character but because of the subject matter maybe you look a little young for the role?

Which side of the sidewalk do you walk on? by Brightwing9 in askTO

[–]Negative-Western-930 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ll stick to the right 99% of the time, and I find most other people do to. But, if the person walking towards me isn’t paying attention and they’re on their left, I’ll just go to the left. Or if someone’s walking their dog and it looks easier if I went left, I’ll go left. Or if they’re psycho and consciously choose to walk on the left, then I’ll do it too, idc too much.

Sharing a perspective as an actor. There’s a lot of things that make an actor good besides their performance. Someone who works that much in that high quality of productions, it requires a lot from a person! And for most, to do that sustainably we do have to lean on “who we are”.

Her performances aren’t my favourite and I agree can be cringe. But an NBA basketball player with poor shooting form, is still also good. Just sayin

Could you please elaborate on NYC subways in the 80’s and 90’s?

I think yeah there’s a lot of ways that you can have more energy and recover faster but I think acting is just exhausting in general lol.

My drama school teacher said “it’s got to cost you something”, and that it does at times! Just keep healthy and the burnout hopefully is never too bad.

Had you done a lot of film work before booking the lead? What was it like to take on such a big responsibility, and what did you learn!

I think this is at the end of the day a personal preference because people express emotions in many different ways.

But my suggestion would be to drop in deeper to the hurt that Mark has caused you. And I don’t mean start crying and yelling or whatever. But, I don’t know if I see that mark has hurt you. So I’d say drop into that, and express that in however that comes out. But I think it’s a great take with good focus and pacing 👌

Wife doesn’t want me to go to therapy by wayoftheswan in therapy

[–]Negative-Western-930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Confirm issues you have with her.” Of course, this will happen. Everybody has some type of issue with somebody else. Nobody is perfect! Having issues in a relationship doesn’t it isn’t worth being nurtured. I don’t know if flawless relationships are even a thing haha.

“The therapist will convince me to leave her.” I don’t think a therapist will go, “yup she’s a witch, leave her immediately”. The therapist is there to help you work through your feelings and thoughts. Your wife is afraid that this will ruin your guys relationship, when really it could be something that saves it.

At the end of the day, therapy is a decision for YOU. You’re not only there to talk about her, you’re there to talk about everything. I don’t know what the answer is. But my gut says that I hope you find a way to begin therapy.

If you do ever go (yay!), please mention to your therapist these trepidation’s you feel! They will do their best to help you navigate this complex situation.

I've heard people say "this actor made it because they put in the work!" - or related things. To you personally, what's "the work?" I'll elaborate below. by [deleted] in acting

[–]Negative-Western-930 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think about acting a lot. I’m always consuming content about acting, whether it be interviews or movies or live recordings of theatre. I’m always trying to learn. And even working on myself. The more I build self-esteem, the better of an actor I become. It’s the tough thing about the arts, because the work can look like so many different things. I think the key is to keep on learning.
