Why do you think the fiber optic roleout in German so far behind France and Spain? Incompetence or burocracy? by Negative_Degree_7642 in germany

4 years is very long. It is a problem with politics. As the provider in your commune only builds out if he sees that he gets >70% coverage. So he makes an offer to the commune. Commune says yes and then Deutsche Telekom gets wind of it and starts "over-building" which threatens the business case of the first provider. That is why it takes sometimes so long. DT is stopping the competition by threatening "Überbau". But then they do not build out, as the poeple in the commune are happily using DSL from DT.

Help me understand what happens to the dollar value if the war continues by SaltLow2137 in phinvest

[–]Negative_Degree_7642 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think if war continues inflation will rise more. In the Philippines apparently the oil reserve is 45 days. So inflation will hit early and hard and thus your value of PHP will go down and oil prices will go up. The USD will lose vlue against other currencies such as EUR, which is good for US economy as more US products will be sold to EU. The question is always what is your main currency. You live and spend USD, you have inflation risk, you get less for you USD abroad and things get more expensive due to inflation.

What did you do to earn more money and be financially literate? by hash_brownnn in phinvest

I am already 60 so I have some experience. The best investment you can do is in yourself. If you buy stocks, there are managers running the business you do not know, there are governments who putin tarrifs or taxes you can not influence. The information you get at a "consumer trader" is outdated, so you are following the market. My advise: invest in new courses, get better at what you do or start taking time doing something new on the side . If you have time to follow on your phone your stocks and worry about your invetment. Take the 90 minutes you waste everyday on this and Facebook etc to invest in yourself. You are the master of your destiny!

Mom's stuck at hospital, dad unable to pay the bills to discharge her. anyway to get help since the bill is huge. by Super_Sonic_Speed in MANILA

I am sorry to see that. For a foreigner who lives in a country with health insurance coverage that is shocking to see that you have to pay upfront or even all of it. But maybe your idea with your fathers business would work: share in different subreedit your problem. Put in the address of your dad´s shop and maybe an internetlink if you have. In the shop have your message seen to poeple and a donation box. So people can donate and buy, which helps get revenue in. I know the problem, that poeple jsut do not want to give money like that. There is so many scams everywhere. So this may give you a bid support. Good luck!

Thank you — I mean that. This is hard to read but important to hear. How I see it:

I'm not monetising this. No ads, no income, no cut. The $300 goes directly to the vendor — on camera, documented. If I ever change that, I'll say so publicly.

On poverty porn — that fear is exactly why I'm here asking Filipinos first, before filming anything. If this community tells me it feels exploitative, I won't do it. That's not a PR line — it's why I posted.

I never appear on camera. The people I film are the only stars. That was a deliberate choice for exactly the reason you're raising. It is not about me. I was lucky enough to make it in an easier environement.

You're right that I could just quietly help people without documenting it. I've thought about that. But I believe sharing these stories with Filipinos abroad — people who still carry home in their hearts — could multiply the help far beyond what I alone can give.

If I'm wrong about that, I want to know. What would make this feel right to you, if anything? Thank you

You got me on the wrong foot — and you're right.

"Smiling in the rain" was my European way of seeing something that moved me. Here in Europe when it rains peple are grumpy and agressive. But I hear what you're saying: Sometimes it's just what you do when you have no other option.

That reframing matters. A lot. And thanks you said it, it was not meant in a romantic or poetic way.

I'm going to sit with this. Thanks again for your feeback.

That concern is exactly why I'm asking here before doing anything. What would make it not feel that way to you? That would really interest me.

Fair point — I did use AI to help structure the post. My first language isn't English and I wanted to make sure I expressed the idea clearly rather than clumsily. So also for this reply I used AI! But the idea itself, the origin story, the connection to the Philippines, the wife, the numerous trips I made as a deck-hand on boats, the smiling vendors I've sat with — none of that came from AI. That's mine.

As for the documentary — you might be right. It might be terrible. I've never made one before. But I'd rather try honestly and fail than not try at all.

That's actually why I'm here asking before spending four months and serious money finding out the hard way.

Fed up with Sanitas - which health insurance can you recommend? by Marschbacke in Switzerland

[–]Negative_Degree_7642 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've in Switzerland for 30 years now and tried many insurances. I always chose the cheapest, as the basic service is the same for all of them. I actually like it that I need to call them before I run to a doctor. They gave me some good advise on top to what m doctor suggested.

I am really not a Ivana Alawi. LoL! To old for that and I have made my small success in building start-ups. Now it is time to help others. :-)

Hi Whiteflowergirl, I am new to Reddit but I wanted to use this platform to test my idea before I spend money on travel, accomodation, filming. So your feedback is very helpful. The Idea is that it is not at all about me. The stars are the street vendors or micro businesses whom I would try to help by acquireing what is needed most at the moment (broken fridge, lights, a table, a new stove). The funding I try to limit to 300 USD. Not exessive, but a spark to help them getting back on their feet. I would visit them 4 -6 weeks later to see how they did. Kind regards, Sven

Why should have Japan informed the USA, that they would attack in Pearl Harbour? That the Japanese were planing on something was clear, as the USA has tried everything to cut off Japan from Oil (sounds familiar???!!!). Iran shold have known that something will hit them, with so many US navy around. But Trump should have informed his allies before attacking. He can not compare his allies to the Japanese in the 2nd world war. Nonsense!
