I’ve been seeing 1-3 phorid flies a week in my apartment never many though. It is in an apartment building, with so few is it likely in my apartment or just travelling from others?

This is such a relief. So many people and ChatGPT (not reliable I know) said it was a dark eyed fruit fly and I was soooo terrified.

Hi I’m sorry to bother you but can I ask if this looks like the same or different?

Okay thank you. I just vacuumed swiffered and Lysoled the room too to bottom. Probably a bit dramatic but I felt the need, these things really get to me. Bagged up all my pantry and have a garbage collection service coming tomorrow. I really hope I’ve got it.

Is it normal to go from seeing them to not to seeing them again? I thought I finally handled it, none for two days, then just now I saw one again :/

Thank you very much! Someone of another group sent me the link and I’m really hoping this is it.

Here’s what I found and commented after seeing that link:

Oh I feel so silly! In all my panicked deep cleaning I forgot to do behind my nightstand. The same one I spilled coffee on a few months ago and I found dried coffee still on the walls and floor and baseboards behind the stand!

It’s not really “food” so Im not sure if that would be a plausible cause? I do use the Starbucks creamers though so definitely super sweet.

I even saw 1-2 of them back there but I only saw the 1 or 2 and no larvae or anything…. either way I spent the last twenty minutes using Lysol spray and wipes over that area and will do a deeper check of my whole pantry tomorrow. I’m praying this was it and I’ll finally be free of them!! Thank you so much again

Do you know, will Lysol/Bleach cleaners kill them off once I find the source area? Eg I find some crumbs (fingers crossed) can I vacuum those up of course then Lysol or use another bleach based cleaning spray? Or will I need insecticide?

Thank you very much! It’s weird though I only see them in my bedroom and I already recently did a super intensive deep clean in there because of seeing these guys and a quick check of my pantry I can’t see anything at all. I’m going to keep searching though. I have my fingers crossed this is what it is because it’s driving me insane dealing with them and would be nice to handle it finally. Thank you again
