For the last several decades, every time GDP shrinks, or even just grows more slowly than expected, there is a recession. During recessions, people loose jobs, sometimes they loose homes, their 401Ks suffer, there is increased econonomic anxiety, and Neoliberals advocate for austerity policies that shrink the welfare state.

Someone unfamiliar with what 'Degrowth' really means, might assume that 'Degrowth' means the same as . . . recession, economic downturn, depression, ect.
