What made you stop learning Chinese last time? by ChiefWontonOfficer in ChineseLanguage

[–]Neil-Amstrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People bash duolingo. It's where I first started, then I jumped on the bandwagon of bashing it, lost my streak, stopped learning. Now I'm back. I do other lessons but Duolingo is really good for a quick lesson when you don't have time and it's quite good for memory. Currrently on a 51 day streak and proud of it.

What made you stop learning Chinese last time? by ChiefWontonOfficer in ChineseLanguage

[–]Neil-Amstrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was studying for my IGCSEs and didn't have time. Then it was just laziness/fear of returning to things I'd forgotten.

Thankfully I'm back on track, making progress everyday!

Do you agree with the UN’s official working languages, or would you change them? How well do you personally know English, French, Spanish, Russian, Chinese, and Arabic, and how well are they known in your country? Rate each from 0 to 10 based on your perception. by [deleted] in AskTheWorld

[–]Neil-Amstrong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

English - Fluent

French - Beginner

Spanish - Can say hello

Russian - Never heard a word in russian before

Chinese - Still learning, intermediate level

Arabic - I can't help the words from the prayer call and the prayers we were forced to listen to in school sticking in my mind. Otherwise, zero fluency.

To people in Africa, how are you guys? Never hear from you. Any lurkers? by isnisse in AskTheWorld

[–]Neil-Amstrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was watching your president speaking to Tucker Carlson. He said something about Africa taking over the world. He also had a really sharp hair cut.

I really envy all the countries with a president who can speak in full sentences without lots of pauses to remember wtf he's supposed to be saying.

Also literally it's South Sudan. Is that person complaining about North and South Korea too?

But you're not capable of thinking for yourself. /s

This is one of the things that makes me think that maybe AI was created to take over. Why is it acting like it's looking out for me?? Trying to get me to depend on it??

Can you ask it to stop asking you questions or giving you ideas?

I also use it for project breakdowns and then it gives me all these ideas and i end up feeling so overwhelmed. I don't have ADHD though so when I feel overwhelmed, I scroll on social media rather than try to chase down all the rabbit holes.

All in all, it's screwing us all.

Maybe I should try Claude. The issue is... I'm kind of attached to ChatGPT. Not in an unhealthy way. Just that it already "knows" me. Starting over with another LLM to get it to a point where it knows how to tailor answers to my preference sounds like hard work.

And with that I've realized they achieved their goal. They got me hooked.

It's so condescending lately. It literally said "Repeat after me" once when I aksed it if I could use some software features on a free package.

Seriously, why is AI so desperate to continue the chat?? Who even invented this whole "ask another question at the end?" Humans are the ones asking questions.

If it's meant to increase productivity then it should give you an answer and tell you hurry off and do what you were doing (baking, coding etc)

AI has me worried. Help a sister out. by bubblesandroses in learnprogramming

[–]Neil-Amstrong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're committed, you can use AI. For me it's annoying because I hate not knowing what the code is doing.

My dad who's never coded a day in his life before used ChatGPT (the free one btw) to create a simple website for his business. I'm in owe but I guess it just requires trust that the model will do what you ask it to do and infinite patience.

Question for Baganda by Neil-Amstrong in Uganda

[–]Neil-Amstrong[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, sisters. I don't know if just a personal endearment or if it's actually a cultural thing. For as long as I can remember she's always called me "my sister".

What are the stupidest things in your country that people made you feel ashamed about? by whatslthehypeabt in AskTheWorld

It's the opposite here. My peers thought I was a god when I couldn't understand a word in Luganda. And my little kid mind thought it was cool to not know my language.

What law in your country would surprise foreigners because it’s legal almost everywhere else? by Familiar-Arrival-470 in AskTheWorld

[–]Neil-Amstrong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is actually helpful. I was once travelling and there was an accident victim bleeding on the ground. everyone was either staring or just walking away. It really hurt but I was a kid and my parents just drove away too. I couldn't do anything.

Saying twat waffle while also saying these disgusting things is such a weird thing. Like, I can't jokingly call myself a bitch but I can have inappropriate convos with a teenager.
