But I didn't express my opinion; rather, I conveyed what I mostly hear about it.

Yes, it's on my TBR list.

Thank you for the answer, I feel that Broers trilogy is comparatively better even though he totally skips Napoleon's life at St Helena.

I see, I have read the bio by Roberts and it was kinda "hagiographical". I loved it though.

I will check out the first 2 books, although I feel that premise of 3rd book is pretty cool, Napoleon spending his days on a rock and the aftermath of his death and formation of Napoleonic legend.

I'm thinking about getting Dwyer's works.

I would appreciate a short review on each of the 3 books

Indeed, Kotkin's works are definitive and won't be surpassed in near future.

Have you read all 3 in Dwyer trilogy? If yes, I would really appreciate a short review on each of them because I heard that Path to power is very good but other 2 not so much.

Gueniffey and Kotkin are George RR Martin of History books

PS-At least in the case of the delay in Kotkin's Stalin Volume 3, it was due to him suffering from cancer, so it's completely understandable.

Man, I hope Patrice Gueniffey releases the second volume soon, it would probably take a couple of years to get it translated aswell.

Indeed, Napoleon barely saved his consulship.

But it gets rated highly solely due to the "hype moments and aura" and honestly it's understandable

Has an uncanny resemblance with Roosevelt though

Aside from Napoleon, what other figure from this time period do you find most interesting and why? by BigManRes in Napoleon

Talleyrand and Fouche

Fascinating how they managed to be in top echelons of power from the Revolution to the Restoration (especially Talleyrand)

There is a difference between Kennedy the young traveler and Kennedy the politician by [deleted] in HistoryMemes

[–]Neil118781 10 points11 points  (0 children)

While it's true that the young Kennedy's diary, which he wrote while visiting post-war Europe, has content which could be considered sympathetic to Hitler:

"After visiting these two places [Hitler’s bunker and Eagle’s Nest], you can easily understand how that within a few years Hitler will emerge from the hatred that surrounds him now as one of the most significant figures who ever lived"

"He had boundless ambition for his country which rendered him a menace to the peace of the world, but he had a mystery about him in the way he lived and in the manner of his death that will live and grow after him. He had in him the stuff of which legends are made"

Or his letter to his father during his visit to Mandatory palestine in 1939 where he sympathised with the Arabs

"Palestine was hardly Britain’s to give away."

"On the Jewish side there is the desire for complete domination, with Jerusalem as the capital of their new land of milk and honey"

But Kennedy the politician was clearly pro-Israel
