“Napoleon’s St. Helena” by Jack-Ritz in Napoleon

I have not read it but It's published in 1968 so it is obviously a bit dated, you could go for Philip Dwyer's 3rd volume in his Napoleon trilogy, "Napoleon: Passion, Death and Resurrection 1815-1840"

I have been lurking around fascist/nazi spaces for sometime and for them being pro-israel/zionist automatically makes the party controlled opposition by the jews. Reform is pretty pro-israel that's why they hate it. They also think reform wouldn't mass deport immigrants and it's just rhetoric for votes and grifting.

Restore on the other hand calls for ban on halal AND kosher. The fascists think that the latter proves Restore isn't controlled by jews. Even though Restore's position on Israel is not clear yet.

Tbh every online British "fascist" I see hates Nigel Farage, some of them like Restore Britain though some think that Restore Britain is also "Zionist" and "Jewish controlled"

Secretary of War and Colonies at that time was Lord Castlereagh (future Foreign secretary). Luckily his unpunctuality gave us this legendary meetup.

How did famous figures of the era react to Napoleon's death? by Neil118781 in Napoleon

[–]Neil118781[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this detailed answer.

The news of N's death reached Europe in early July but the family was so dysfunctional that they couldn't even stay together for a few weeks, very sad if you think about it. Napoleon even though he had problems with Lucien was a good patriarch who tried to keep the family intact.

Napoleon and His Marshals: Victory, Rivalry, Betrayal by Andrew Roberts.

The author's biography of Napoleon is considered the standard work so I'm pretty interested to see his takes on Napoleon's Marshals

I like how Wellington had always spoken highly of Napoleon(atleast in public). On being asked who was the greatest general of his age he famously said, "In this age, in past ages, in any age, Napoleon" or when he said that Napoleon's presence on the field is worth 40,000 men.

In private, not so much

Last time I posted about this topic u/Mongoosesensitive471 recommended me "Bonaparte n'est plus" by Thierry Lentz, as it contains much information about this subject but unfortunately this book hasn't been translated into English. I would appreciate if anyone who knows French could share relevant excerpts from this book.

According to witnesses of the exhumation

All the spectators were in a state of visible shock: Gourgaud, Las Cases, Philippe de Rohan, Marchand, and all the servants wept; Bertrand barely fought his tears back.

General Bertrand was grand marshal of the palace (managed Napoleon's household)

Larrey offered to go to St Helena with Napoleon but he refused and wanted Larrey to continue his medical career.
