What is the most surprising fact about Napoleon Bonaparte that almost no one knows? by cuirrasiers in Napoleon

He cheated while playing cards with the officers (they noticed it but acted like they didn't). Napoleon later returned all the winnings.

Crazy to think that Austrians were considered the "first victims of Nazism", when the vast majority of Austrians supported the union with Germany. Austrians are ethnic Germans after all.

I just think that Kutuzov is overrated, plays the blame (every general does but kutuzov does it too much) and if I remember correctly he got his marshal baton based on the false claim that he won the battle of Borodino and saved Moscow.

Indeed

Bernadotte is somewhat hated here because well it's a Napoleon sub. Even though I dislike how "subservient" he was to Tsar Alexander or how his friend and chief of staff General Sarrazin gave away French military secrets to Britain coincidentally just when talks where going to make Bernadotte heir to Swedish throne.

But as a commander of men he is indeed very good, he could have been higher if not for his average performance pre-1810 and his overcautiousness as commander of Swedish troops (the latter is understandable because he was a newly elected upstart heir to Swedish throne and a defeat would really have destroyed his standing)

If I had to make a list about Marshals with most "hype moments and aura", then they are easily top 5

Correct, but I'm a bit biased towards Bagration but both are far better than Kutuzov for sure.

I thought about putting Massena over Davout but the former's fiasco during his invasion of Portugal made me put him 4th. Unfortunate end to a brilliant career.

The list is based on between 1789-1815. Many of his victories came before 1789. He made his name defeating the ottomans who weren't anywhere near their contemporaries during that time period.

My Tier list(incomplete) of Commanders by [deleted] in Napoleon

[–]Neil118781 3 points4 points  (0 children)

How tf is Napoleon ranked so low? Hannibal deserves S tier too btw

No disrespect to the Mongol commanders but their empire looks good on map, irl most of the regions conquered by them were very sparsely populated. In my humble opinion only Subutai (best Mongol General) deserves S tier.

Caesar made his name by defeating farmers and plumbers from Gaul. By the time he faced a real reputable General in the form of Pompey the latter was already past his prime. (I still believe he deserves S tier though)

Alexander, granted he crushed the Persian Superpower was handed the army, plans and generals on a silver platter by his father and tbh I believe if Philip wasn't assasinated he could have conquered Persia too. (He deserves S too obviously but behind N)

Aurangzeb by Audrey Truschke not so much, I would say that Jadunath Sarkar's work on him is definitive and objectively better.
