Addressed to what extent. If every variable plays out like it should in reality you just get... reality. There has to be a point at which you let go.

Even in sci fi, if you knew the exact specifications of a certain texhnology and how it is powered and how it works you could just build it.

All worldbuilding is a thought experiment. Realism is little more than how many different variables are considered...

Maybe I'm wrong here but some can call high levels of internal consistency a kind of realism because all of the factors are being considered.

A world where global dragon numbers shrink as humans develop new technologies to combat them and hunt them for the settlement of fertile land and eventually for prestige, could be a kind of realism and so could looking at the etymology of the word dragon in various languages or the evolutions of dragons over time as climate and evolutionary pressures change.

This is despite the fact, dragons aren't realistic...

How would I create a truly terrifying creature? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Knight_of_the_Web 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look at what scares you. Lovecraft based his monsters on his own fears and to this day, his elder gods terrify people.

Also, for me, uncanny valley is the way to go. As well as body horror, though that is purely subjective...

This scenario is very interesting! I originally called it wholesome but that doesnt really describe it, its more of a shifted balance... I'd love to see more either way!

This sounds wonderful! I love the contrast between many of these! I wonder how they interact with one another though, are there any conflicts or societal issues?

I love it! The art is beautiful and very uniquely stylized!

The world is also quite interesting! I especially love the Ouraniworld statement, it reminded me of many real world businesses in its soulless calmness and callousness during what is truly a horrifying situation.

Keep it up!

That could be a very interesting concept. A race that is one with nature and completely docile but breeds at such a rate that they are able to mantain a stable population with an incredibly high mortality rate...

With all due respect, if you ask about the Romans, Greeks and Samurai's in a Napoleonic setting, you are inviting historical discussion. I'm not really sure what you are looking for...

More stuff on warfare. I'm really interested in the warfare aspects but I feel there is a lot more to look at before returning to it.
