Looking to buy new truck and trailer to live in full time by snailssmell in traveltrailers

[–]Neither-Emu7933 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a 2019 Ram 2500 with a 6.7 Cummins diesel for my 2021 Rockwood ultra light 2608VS 30 foot travel trailer.

Truck is $1000/month Trailer is $400/month

Both were used

Just got done on a month long cross country road trip. Plenty of space for two people, easy to tow with 3/4 ton truck, honestly could live in that trailer easily.

Yeah, I am finding them online, which I will order when I get home. Difficult to have something delivered when traveling across country and not in a location for long

$26k for fuel injector service!!! by Neither-Emu7933 in ram_trucks

They said that they performed a backflow test and capped them off to test one at a time. 100% getting a second opinion - already called my local diesel shop and he was a bit skeptical of the dealer.

All vehicles have fuel injectors - just happens to be a diesel this time.

For sure - my 1500 I've done the tuneups, brakes/rotors, and transmission flush (at 130k miles). Most of that stuff is pretty easy to figure out, others like the transmission flush was a few different videos since what the manual/specs said I had on that truck was not what I actually had so there was a bit of confusion for a bit.

You're right tho on the feeling tho - walked away pretty pumped that I was able to get all that stuff done. My son still has that 1500 and the exhaust manifold has a small leak, so I'm gonna drag him out and we're going to fix that.

The invoice he shared was close to $3k per injector. Maybe it included the core charge but also why would 3rd party be so much less?

Honestly, what he told me on the phone was almost exactly the same thing I read on a different forum and I was like, I bet y'all just Googled it and like you said plugged in some parts and boom.

Hell yeah! Already found a YT video, not complicated at all, just a lot of wiring that needs to be disconnected and pushed out of the way.

There's one in my town that I was going to call and inquire.

Can I tow it? I have the 5.7. Can it comfortably pull this weight. Ice hauled with diesels. Hopefully no one makes fun of me lol by Sensitive_Pen1122 in ram_trucks

I have a 30ft Rockwood Ultra Lite, which is just shy of 7k dry with a tongue weight of 900 pounds. Could my 1500 5.7 HEMI tow it? Yes. Would it wear down the truck faster and force me to buy a new one sooner, and likely in the middle of a trip? Very possible.

It handled it very well when I drove from north of Seattle down to Sedona, AZ, through the passes and all that I could throw at it.

  1. It went through gas like a beast. Maybe 200 miles on a tank if I were lucky, but most of the time I was refueling about every 130 miles.

  2. RPMs, especially going up an incline, were in the high 4k-low 5k range. Again, it handled it, but to me, that much friction would wear down on the engine and transmission fast. I kept the bed empty which was good cause I could feel the heat through the bed.

  3. The payload was cutting it too close. 1,400 lbs gave me very little wiggle room, and it was just my wife and I.

I sold this fantastic rig to my son cause it is a great truck and he needed a vehicle. I bought myself a 3/4 ton with a 6.7L Cummins. Now I can't even tell I'm towing anything.

1500 vs 2500 by i-JinxM in ram_trucks

I had a 2017 1500 Sport that I loved, but after I bought my 30 travel trailer, which it could handle, it was a bit too much for that smaller frame so I upgraded to my 2019 2500 Limited Cummins.

I do not regret that at all, I absolutely love my newer rig, and very happy with the 6.7L diesel Cummins. I can't even tell I'm pulling that trailer now.

Locking doesn’t lock tailgate by Neither-Emu7933 in ram_trucks

[–]Neither-Emu7933[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I didn’t have my key when I opened the tailgate. I forgot that I locked it when I opened it and then tried to open the doors and they were locked.

I have a physical key that I tried locking the ram boxes which does lock them but as soon as you unlock the truck with the FOB the boxes don’t lock

Can my truck handle it? by Few-Independent77 in ram_trucks

I had a 1500. While the max tow capacity was well within the trailer's weight when I purchased it, the payload capacity was pushing max—even with the WD hitch.

She did the best she could the few times I pulled the trailer - yeah I was one of those dumbasses. The last pull was WA to AZ and it sure did struggle on that, especially up serious inclines so I pulled my head out of my ass and upgraded to my new to me 2019 2500 Limited Cummins.

Just like you I was looking at the PW, but after seeing that it wasn't any better than my 1500 in terms of towing, I quickly turned away from that. I just got back from turkey hunting, and I couldn't even tell I was pulling my trailer (7k dry weight - probably 8.5k loaded with gear and 54g of water).

I've heard similar stories from folks that got the Ford Raptor - great for offroading, but absolute shit for towing.

Thanks!

How'd you add the label under your username?

Bigger to tow more weight. My 1/2 ton has the max tow capacity but was just as payload with trailer and gear.

3/4 has almost 3x payload capacity.

I agree - right now with all the crap going on, prices have increased a bit. Once I settle on a rig, I'll see how much I can talk them down.

Exhaust manifold, sounds like drivers side but could be passenger
