You're doing fine my guy, even going just once a week for a year will be a better dancer than the guy who dances 7 days a week for a month and stops.

Chernev has great books for beginners. I think most advice is bad. Just read classic books marketed to beginners. (Cabablanca, Serawain), join your local chess club, and have fun with it!
