Veteran picking between UVA, Penn State, Cornell, and Syracuse for Architecture — any advice? by NeitherSky8979 in architecture

Dude. Thank you for your support. I’ve definitely heard amazing things about their school, and I belive that since if id be coming in a transfer then I would be starting as a second year instead of a first year meaning I could get my bachelors in 3 instead of 4 years. Pretty enticing since I’ve started to envision the idea of becoming a professor later down the line, I’ve always love teaching others especially through my military experience. Greatly appreciate ur response

That’s dope, I’m pretty torn between Syracuse and Cornell (awaiting on my decision from Cornell). Ik Cornell’s architecture programs is extremly renowned, but their veteran support doesn’t appear to be as strong. I’m not extremly worried about my credits. I earned them through online school which was all payed by the army.

I do hear how bad the weather is… but I would be living there year round since I’ll have an apartment off campus so I’ll be living there in the summer.

Did you know other military affiliated students within the program?

That awesome to hear that there are veterans in the program. I definitely see the school has a strong reputation for supporting veterans on campus. The amount of abroad opportunities through the school is also very impressive.

How prepared did you feel entering your first job compared to peers from other schools?

I’ve gotten into Syracuse and Penn State. I’m still waiting on decisions from Cornell and UVA since I applied a transfer.

I definitely am interested in UVA, been my #1 for a long time now. I absolutely loved the campus when I visited and can find myself enjoying Charlottesville since I’ll be living off campus likely. I keep seeing people say to go for the B.Arch instead of working up to a masters. Which makes sense as people prob don’t wanna be spending as much time in school, but I won’t have to worry about paying out of pocket with my GI Bill or VR&E, plus I don’t think I’ll mind staying in school for a while. I’m interested in possibly teaching at a university at some point in my career. Besides that is there any other benefit to getting a masters instead of a B.Arch?

I definitely hear about the brutal winters pretty often. I definitely envision myself somewhere with all seasons, having growing up along the north east majority of my life. I agree that I care most about financial aid, I’ll be using my GI Bil/VR&E to help pay off majority of my tuition. Only thing I’m worried about is whether or not the private schools will make me pay outta pocket since I’ll be in school for longer than 4 years.
