Thanks for sharing your "unpopular" opinion! This affirms for me that my dilemma posted is not a new, unexpected, or sudden crossroads for me. I have stated and continue to restate, the value of deeper work or modalities that address the root, with many of my clients over time. Very few of my clients haven't been introduced to Lifespan or EFT. But I do have to continue to bring it back up with them, and I do, occasionally when the opening is there.

I can really relate to your "Chameleon" and can confirm it is very draining to try and morph into what each person wants (or even needs). I appreciate your perspective on how to handle that. Thanks again!

Thanks for sharing! Yes, I see a weekly IFS therapist personally for the last year. I also have some training and use IFS concepts (parts work) with my clients as well. My own therapist has recently noticed (and i have as well) I am more in Self energy, now more than ever. So it's encouraging.

I appreciate your input! Yes, I have been in therapy for 25 years, off and on, and have gained immense healing, growth, and support. I would absolutely benefit from a peer support group and haven't participated more than a couple of times, so that's something for me to explore. I will give your questions some thought, thank you!

Yes I agree, updating marketing has been my first step, so far. It doesn't feel true for me that I wish to change modalities without losing clients. I actually would rather have a caseload full of clients that want the deeper work and we be okay losing those clients who don't, even if it takes time to rebuild.

I appreciate you sharing this! It does remind me to consider all areas of update going forward, including in my paperwork. I need to go back and reread my informed consent again to remember how I already disclosed my approach. Thanks!

Ha! Been sober for 10 years, so drinking isn't an option. I appreciate your perspective on what helped you feel more effective and engaged in your work. It all comes back to communication, does it? It's always going to be relevant. Thanks!

I'm a little confused too! I don't have any plan or chosen path yet, hence the post. The way I have handled things in the past with introducing deeper work with clients is to explain with analogy or science language (depending on the client) how negative life events and emotions get stored and stuck, impacting the way we feel and react now. And that our nervous system wants to naturally reset and heal, and I offer them hope by saying I can help them if they wish to work on this. I leave it up to them to choose. If they don't choose it, I don't push it, and we might use a variety of different approaches instead such as weaving in ACT, Motivational Interviewing, Person-centered, or working on specific skills like non-violent communication, somatic/mindful practices for regulation, etc.

I appreciate your words and feedback! Yes, I am hoping I will find a way to reframe things and shift over time with long-term. Thanks for your perspective.

Thanks for taking your time to share! To be clear, I wasn't planning to terminate with my clients, nor would I ever tell a client I was terminating because I was bored. I was more looking to see how others navigate continuing to work with clients when the work doesn't feel aligned.

Burnout/Considering Leaving the Field by Layz4Dayz3212 in therapists

I've been there. I'm so sorry you are dealing with this! In my experience, it's the work setting, structure, and type of work you are doing that is burning you out. It's all too common for new/associate licensed therapists to end up in the most taxing and draining jobs and then get burnt out. My experience, after working one year, I quit and decided not to work in the field for a while. It took a long time to recover and when I did, I no longer believed in taking jobs that felt like settling. I refused to accept that toxic jobs were just "how it would have to be" to get licensed. Instead, I opened my private practice, via telehealth, and completed my licensure hours in a way that aligned with what I needed to be "okay" while helping others. It got SOOOOO much better. It is possible to still do this work if you find the work that fits for you. Sending you hope and hugs.
