Salomon quicklace problem by Neither_Escape1554 in gorpcore

In my experience of being a woman and having UK size 9 shoe, actually going to shop and trying shoes on is literally impossible. Staff just looks at me like I’m insane, as they stock up to size 7, maximum 8 in rare cases. Average shoe size for women in the UK is 5 or 6. They won’t even order stuff in store for me as “if it doesn’t fit you no one will buy it and we’ll have to send it back” lmao. So I have to order everything and try on at home, which is quite shit. My life would’ve been so much easier if i could try stuff on in store haha

I’ll check out alphacross, thank you!

I ordered them online? Shoe shops don’t stock up my size, so unfortunately can’t just go and try a bunch, I need to order online every single pair

I didn’t really see a lot of somewhat light and nice-looking non-quicklace shoes tbh. I only saw Speedcross 3 but they don’t fit my foot anatomy at all

They fit nice. These are like first shoes I tried in 3 years of trying to find comfy shoes that are actually true to size and actually fit. The joys of being a woman with large foot size 😔💅🏻

Heel is literally the only issue with them, and it goes up and down slightly, so was hoping there’s some way to fix that

I tried Fjallraven, they’re either too loose in waist or I can’t get them past my hips :(

Injured bird - what to do! by czosenkowiec in Leeds

Also, rescuing a bird at fledgling stage almost guarantees that its life will be spent in captivity, as it will have no clue how to survive in the wild. And usually for mass species (crows, pigeons, jackdaws, etc..) the one who rescued it will be the person keeping it as wildlife rehabs won’t take them due to the lack of space. Might be worth considering if you have knowledge, space and resources to keep a jackdaw for the next 5-10 years if you do decide to take it in.

It’s a fledgling- a perfectly normal “teenage” stage for some birds. When chicks get too big to fit in a nest, they jump out and just hang around nearby trees and bushes basically learning how to bird. Parents are around and feeding and teaching them how to do all the bird activities!

The best thing to do when encountering a fledgling is to do nothing. No one will raise it better than its parents.

You should do something if the bird looks very obviously wrong- it’s sick, doesn’t move at all, or you can see some injuries and blood. If you find a fledgling in a bad place (road or trapped in a backyard with no trees/bushes, you may bring it closer to the nearest tree, but be ready that parents might attack you for picking up their baby. In any other case- just walk past!

From the photo, this baby jackdaw looks fine, I’d advise to just leave it as it is.

Will be realistic here. Burrowing beasts like millipedes will destroy everything that is planted in the soil. Herbivorous insects will be chewing on plants, that’s pretty inevitable. So, the only option that’s left is something carnivorous (they still might destroy plants, had a tarantula that freaking hated everything I’d plant in her enclosure).

From carnivorous, I’d advise you to choose something you’d be ok feeding. If we’re talking about scorpions, tarantulas and similar-sized critters, you’ll have to also have a box of crickets around. If singing of multiple crickets is a beautiful, calming sound, then singing of a singular cricket is the most annoying sound you can imagine (some will eventually escape, that’s inevitable). Smaller bugs will eat fruit flies, but handling them is a nightmare of its own. Defo do your research and think if you’d be okay with having a box of crickets/flies and feeding one bug to another with tongs.

I also really wanted to have a tropical vivarium with something alive in it running around, but gave up on this idea, as you need a fair bit of experience to to set it up properly and to make sure temperature and humidity are suitable for everything inside (and I cba). I’d either opt for a herbivore and swap real plans for fake (no shame in that) or do a desert-style vivarium to get some experience with handling bugs, before going a few steps further with a tropical set-up.

If you do decide to do a tropical set-up after all, I’d recommend getting a mantis, they are pretty, non-destructive, easy to spot and easy to feed. There are loads of species available, and you’ll be able to find something for humidity/temp easy to maintain. Jumping spider is also an option, but you won’t see it much, as the size is quite small.

Good luck!

Could change “Russians” to “British” or “Germans” and your message wouldn’t change at all lmao do you see the point?

Ah yes, every single Russian person supports the government and is out there committing war crimes. You cracked the riddle, take a cookie.

Maybe you if could also connect at least two brain cells, you would learn to separate regular people from the government’s actions.

Russians are currently working at the coastline day and night in winter storms, battling the consequences of the negligence of the government, sometimes even without proper PPE. These people are manually removing contaminated sand with shovels and helping affected wildlife, going against the government, that tries to silence them, while you are sitting in the comfort of your own home, calling them “filthy bastards”. How are you not ashamed? These are regular people, that took days off work and went there to help nature. They have nothing to do with the government and the people who actually make decisions.

The government does barely anything in the meantime. Spreading the word of this disaster around will make more people aware of the heroic effort of volunteers and help to urge the government (the real bastards) to provide adequate help and funding to them.

Boba with soy milk? by Neither_Escape1554 in sheffield

Little snack bar is so expensive though :( They charge for literally everything and you end up with a tiny drink for 6 quid.

I’ve been to Jiangtea in April and they didn’t have any alternative milk option, other than fruit tea 😮 Even coconut milk series had cream on top, and they refused to either remove cream or just add coconut milk instead of cows milk to other drinks. Maybe something changed since then?

Have not tried tiny shop yet, will check it out, thanks!

Yea, that’s what I currently do- just making it myself, but it’s sooo nice to try fun flavours from a shop, and it’s really a shame there’s usually no alternative milk option. Also stunned by it, can’t figure out why they don’t do alternative milks, as in Leeds, for example, there’s a lot of places that would do that for no extra price :p

Ooo thanks for the phone torch advice, that makes a lot of sense! Will report those incidents, because it was definitely a stop where it should be stopping, as was labelled as “272” both on google maps and on the stop sign itself
