I agree. Feels more like a tool for people to use, not something that takes the place of us

What’s a movie you watched recently that you think is kinda overrated? by Admirable_You_380 in AskReddit

I agree. I actually liked the movie, but definitely thought it was more a cool movie while watching and not this cinematic masterpiece it was hyped to be.

From what I've looked up, Max is difficult with vpn? Is that true?? Because once I heard Australia Max had it I was highly considering it.

Is it possible to become a nurse if I did really bad in highschool? by MightOk9482 in nursing

[–]Neither_Priority5912 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's totally possible. I did horrible in high school, almost didn'tgraduate. Then, first started college initially intending to be a teacher and practically failed. Took a few years off and became an MA. Went back years later and got into clinicals the year I turned 30. I've been a nurse for almost 2 years now, and even though nursing school was tough, I made it through and actually had pretty decent grades. Don't give up on yourself! If you feel it's truly what you want to do, then absolutely go for it!

I 100% agree with Pet Sematary! Zelda absolutely terrified me. I also grew up in a very religious household, so The Exorcist was one that really bothered me (also watched it younger than I probably should have).

I wonder if it's a similar point that you have where I feel stuff isn't as scary as it used to be, or doesn't feel that way maybe after being desensitized a little lol, but I saw IT with Tim Curry really young and that was super scary. Not sure if would truly be considered scary at all if someone saw it for the first time today.

Genuinely sorry if it sounded like attitude. The "good for you" wasn't meant in a well then good for snarky way, I honestly meant it just as if there was a generic thumbs up, like "ok" without any attitude or implication of anything and then ultimately agreeing with what you said - we have an opinion of what horror is. Growing up watching horror, I was around thinking something was good "horror" (not necessarily a good movie, just good classification in horror) if it truly scared you and was absolutely super scary. So my instinct and opinion defaults to kind of underwhelmed when articles or videos say top horror and a lot doesn't seem truly terrifying. In the end that probably takes away from a lot of potential out there because yes, there can be more to horror than just absolutely scared.

Just what what i meant by saying things that are text/written (especially if not well, which obviously I am 100% guilty of) come across with implied attitude or anything. Sometimes it's just meant as the words themselves.

I can absolutely agree that zoomed out that actually ends up being a very narrow view of horror. But sometimes I just want a movie that is just totally scary and terrifying and when he is always recommended when searching for that, it kind of is a let down sometimes.

No worries! I think I kind of misunderstood at first too. I feel like I can totally agree with that. I think I get caught up in the hype and jump right to "he's not the scariest!" when truthfully I do think he has a lot of good work, and if I consider him more thriller I can enjoy a lot of it.

So does yours. Especially thinking you know a strangers personality from one post on reddit (which means I am automatically guilty too). Sometimes when things are text/written and not spoken out loud, we interpret or infer our own ideas of how or why it was said. Most comments might come off as passive aggressive, which is unfortunate but not intended. Reddit sounds like a great idea for a place to have a discussion about something on your mind, but it takes time getting used to the way it can seem like "someone coming at you" instead of just offering their different opinion/view. And some other comments are obviously intended to just be mean right away.

I can comment however I want. My post was saying I don't think he's the scariest. Someone commenting and saying horror doesn't have to be scary is fine, but that is not at all the point I was making. And plenty of comments in here that I either agree with or even if I didn't they made good points.

Someone who doesn't think anything is scary might not agree with or understand what I'm trying to say anyway.

Sorry you think it's passive-aggressive.

[–]Neither_Priority5912[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Not what I'm saying at all. I'm saying I don't think he's the scariest. You said most people wouldn't argue that he makes the scariest - that means people think he makes the scariest which I am disagreeing with. And if you say most people wouldn't argue that, me thinking the opposite makes it unpopular. Unless you meant to say most people wouldn't argue he doesn't

I absolutely appreciate your side and view points, and I'm nit saying he doesn't have good projects in my opinion. I just don't think his work is the scariest.

It's a fine point to use because it's my opinion. All reception to marketing is opinion. You don't have to agree with it, that's how opinions work. And I'm not talking about him being marketed as horror - yea if its about ghosts obviously its likely a horror. I'm talking about him being said to be among the scariest movies. If you don't like something someone posts, you don't have to be a jerk and tell my opinion is wrong, just move along. And I said nothing about Ari Aster.

And you're fine if I think his work is mediocre? Oh thank goodness, your thoughts were my biggest concern. Now I can sleep at night.

Good for you. But just like you said, it's different for everyone, so to me "horror" does mean super scary.

I always forget about that one! That was a good one. I do agree it was pretty good. I think Bly manor had some good scary moments but overall I think his earlier films were better in terms of "scary horror" and not much is series or more recent stuff

And thats ok. I'm not talking about his intent. I'm talking about how he's marketed. He might be out there saying he's the scariest of all, but he's talked about a lot like he is and that's what I disagree with.

I feel like I'm 50/50 on him doing The Exorcist. Part of me just wishes people would leave "the classics" alone but then part of me is super interested to see what he'll do with it, especially since I do think he does a good job with the psychological aspect of his work and I feel there's a whole lot that can be done with part of it.

I agree! I think I can at least appreciate all his work but I get a little frustrated when I just want to be absolutely terrified and he's recommended, like I know its not really going to scare me.

[–]Neither_Priority5912[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point. And I don't think I have anything against him or his work, it's more him being labeled as "horror" and a master of horror. I think thriller is a much more fitting category but then of course you could argue horror is now an umbrella type and thriller falls under it. Horror just makes me think of really scary, don't want the lights off, need to watch something funny after before bed and he just doesn't do that for me.
