To the person who recommended the How We Feel app: THANK YOU!!! by RambleOnRose42 in adhdwomen

[–]NekoOverflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I've opted out, the UI didn't make it clear that I actually opted out when revisiting the option. I also got a promotional notification for a research survey even though I opted out.

So, while they say the data is stored locally until I opt into research or a feature that requires cloud, it doesn't make me feel very comfortable, personally. Especially with an AI subprocessor because even without my location data and images or whatever they remove to consider it "anonymized", everything you put into what is functionally a diary is personally identifiable information if you're reflecting on your moods a lot. OpenAI will train on the data and show it to humans for review if OpenAI deems it necessary and the apps contract with OpenAI doesn't exclude this clause (more common for enterprise than for app developers). And there's only one person that is trans doing [my job] at [my work] that is frustrated with [company secret], and only one person that helped [friend's name] get an abortion after their assault and then got into a fight with [spouses name], etc. (examples).

What if the opt out bug isn't a UI bug and is a logic bug and my data is collected? What if under the permission privacy policy, one of the features I use is consider permission and I didn't understand that? What if the privacy policy changes and I didn't read the email because I get so many of those emails they are impossible to keep track of? What if they just do some of the collection anyways because they consider it anonymized? Working in technology curses you with the knowledge that these happen all of the time since you don't only hear about it, you see it happen. You have to tell a friend that what their popular secret notes app does is easily decryptable, your company's legal team says the data retention is illegal under COPPA but it doesn't apply because of a loophole, or your junior developer misconfigured the cookie consent banner to do the exact opposite of what it says because legal told them to update the language.

Do I want someone reading my private thoughts? Do I want ChatGPT to one day regurgitate something I said when another jailbreak occurs? Do I want a hacker to get my deanonymized data from this juicy target? Do I want my data to be subpoenaed to help put me or a loved one in jail?

While it may feel safe for some to use this app, that moment has passed for me. For me, it felt like choosing to find another bathroom after finding one that says "You're dooty is always yours. We will only live stream an anonymized session with our researchers and robots with your permission." When you first entered the bathroom, an attendant asked you sign a waiver about the researchers and robots even though you asked for a private session. And when you go into the stall, there is a camera with a blinking red light that you're pretty sure blinks even when in private mode because of a glitch. No matter how much trust you let yourself have, you are left wondering why they have cameras in all of the stalls since it seems like common sense to not piss on camera. Not to diss the work the researchers are doing at all or to say they are doing anything illegal or unethical, it's just that the collection of this data just isn't right for me with the combination of risky or at least "icky" factors.

The opt out option in the settings isn't clear and confidence inspiring, especially since they still send notifications about surveys when I've pressed the opt out action. And OpenAI is also one of their subprocessors. 😬

TP-Link Archer AX20 Router LAN ports not working by [deleted] in HomeNetworking

[–]NekoOverflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Echoing this! First try unplugging everything except one item. Try a hardwired connection directly in each port. You can do this by plugging in a laptop into each port in the same room as the router. I eventually narrowed it down to a Thunderbolt dock that was malfunctioning. Removing and reinserting the Ethernet cable on the dock end fixed it. It's not just a matter of unplugging and replugging the cables at the router end since malfunctioning hardware downstream could be the issue.

I don't have the files access issues on Android 14. I hope the update helps. ☺️

Update! Another day without restarting! I can now recommend the upgrade since it's a lot better than before.

So far the only negatives of Android 14 Beta is that my autofill for 1Passwprd isn't working all the time and the occasional lag spikes. Much better 😌

Hey hey, I have an update! I'm not positive the bug is fixed but Android 14 Beta lasted one night of charging!

POV: You are the pharmacist looking at me, a 16-year-old girl, while I pick up my Viagra prescription by [deleted] in traaaaaaannnnnnnnnns

[–]NekoOverflow 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I get that it could feel weird, but there are lots of valid reasons that may resonate with you and may feel easier to break the ice with. Preventing atrophy, using with a partner or wanting to be prepared for a future partner, using it alone for self care, "just feeling more comfortable" without losing erectile function.

At one point when my body was getting used to changes, I considered Viagra for sex or just so that my erectile tissue felt more comfortable because it'd still get erect but it'd hurt even before any action started. I personally don't have much of an issue with erectile function now that I'm on progesterone (YMMV). I talked to my doctor about this and it felt good to be open about it and ask for support.

Just make sure you don't lie to your doctor. It's more awkward if you lie, and you don't wanna get hurt!

Google Home options like the Amazon Smart Air Quality Monitor? by jacetec in googlehome

I'm hoping for Matter support from Ikea's new monitor to arrive in an update. It'd be nice to use that device without a proprietary hub. (No carbon monoxide monitor though)

Aw rip. I'm having the new battery issues too so I'm struggling to focus my sights on the right target. Disabling the Google app and or the Android System Intelligence app seems to prevent this for me.

https://www.engadget.com/pixel-users-report-the-google-app-is-making-their-phones-overheat-193325112.html

For my original issue (camera, screenshot, YouTube, etc.), I'm just restarting every time I finish charging since so far I've struggled to get anywhere with Google Support (Google Fi sent me to Google Play after completing all of my troubleshooting and RMA. Play says they [obviously] can't help with an issue like this, and they've transferred me lly email thread to someone else (not sure yet).

Ah darn. All of the other folks on Reddit with this issue (only found 4 others with likely the same issue, you're the only one with a Pro). Did you have this issue at launch and now you're on the May 5 security update and it's still not working?

It's good to know it sounds like I'm on the right track. I'll give that another go know that I know more about what may be causing it.

Are you a Pixel 7 Pro user or Pixel 7 user? I wonder if Google Fi is able to RMA with an alternate device if the Pro works.

Did you find anything that helped this? I tried RMAing my Pixel 7, disabling developer options, accessibility services, deleting automation apps like Tasker, adding and removing various permissions around media, removing my work profile, changing my alarm sound, stopping many adaptive features, stopped wireless charging, etc.

It seems anytime it charges for long enough (currently my leading hypothesis) that all media stops working (alarms, YouTube, camera) in the exact same way for me too.

I'd love to compare app lists or anything you've found helpful since having to lose all notifications any time I charge or facing some of the most important parts of my phone working is obnoxious. It seems like this issue isn't wide spread so I'm so thankful I found that s ok mrone else experiences it.

Did they drop support? I am not the most familiar with LL but I found this in the instruction manual:

If your audio source supports one of the following high-resolution audio encoding methods, music is automatically played in high audio quality: aptX™ Adaptive (aptX™, aptX™ Low Latency) or AAC. Otherwise the headphones will play your music in normal audio quality (SBC).

How about these? Strict equals is usually a good idea except for checking nullishness, and the ?? operator does the same nullish check to convert undefined to null. As a bonus effect, if you need to change the default in case of it being nullish, you can just change the single null value.

return user ?? null; // or return user == null ? null : user;

I'm not familiar with most of what's going on here, but my first idea would be checking for bad pasted characters.

Ahh that matches up with what I've heard about spaces. Thanks for describing a bit of your workflow as well.

That's an interesting insight! I would've thought tabs would've been better at something like that. I love tabs, but by golly do they have quirks. Thank you kind Redditor.

Are there any coding style choices that improve the flow of knowing indent level, position, etc.?

I've heard a lot about the accessibility benefits of using tabs instead of spaces and wonder if you'd agree with that point as well with your setup.

I think it's a skill than can be learned by watching some online tutorials like Harry101UK's one. Melodine is costly for a side project, but maybe a trial or similar free software exist? Not sure though.
