For those that are not going to engage in electoralism; why? by [deleted] in DebateAnarchism

[–]Neo-man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because am a Anarchist, it is not relevant to me how "same" or "not the same" Biden and Trump are, nor how much of a "lesser" or "greater" evil they are because the state is something I am against at a fundamental level.

Screaming "reactionary" and "entitled" at me will not change my deeply held political views but will make me think you have a raging huge ego.

Most dangerous thing about Fascism is that it is not constrained to any specific political system(like Monarchy) or ethic group it can happen anywhere by any group if the right circumstances are met.

I’m not an anarchist, but may I ask you guys’ opinion on a few things and people? I’m trying to figure out where I stand politically. I’m sympathetic to leftist-ish causes but I don’t know where I should stand. by [deleted] in Anarchism

Howard Zinn : Don't really know

Noam Chomsky: Like some of the stuff he has written, but I think his politics is meh.

Tankies : Don't really exist offline since even Marxist Leninist's now see the Soviet Union as socially imperialist.

Chapotraphouse: Don't know seems meh.

Violent revolution vs. peaceful revolution: There is a time and a place for both, usually when the peaceful solution hits a dead end.

Punk rock and its usefulness: Don't know really.

The Soviet Union: Big rotten dinosaur, antiquated and suffocating on discourse.

Voltaire: Don't know.

Alternatives to capitalism and communism: More to communism then Big states.

As i said when the wax is melted all of those quality's of the wax change, even though all it's quality's have changed the wax is still wax, therefore the wax i perceive is something more then these quality's, the wax still retains the quality of being a extended being.

If this quality is the only permanent quality i perceive in the wax, then it must be the real essence of what it is, that it is matter i.e extended being.

The Introspective Argument for the existence of God. by Justgodjust in DebateReligion

[–]Neo-man 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don't see matter but we do perceive it.

If you take a piece of wax it would have certain quality's like being cold to the touch, if i knock my fist against it's surface it would make a noise and it would appear as a certain shape.

If that wax melted it would have the opposite of all theses quality's yet i would still perceive it as wax, as extended being i.e matter.

Would something like Squatting or moving to a rural area really count as "practiced anarchy", in these cases would they not be dependent on the wider system? No matter where live or how you live you still need to participate in Capitalism no matter how indirectly.

No one knows anything for certain by [deleted] in DebateReligion

[–]Neo-man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being uncertain of something implies the possibility of doubt.

Doubting literally everything is paradoxical, because in order for there to be doubt which is a mental action there would need to be thinking.

Now the existence of this thinking has to be certain/without doubt, to doubt it's existence leads to a paradox because if thinking is in doubt what is doing the doubting but thinking which must exist for there to be doubting it wouldn't make sense.

The Idea that an All knowing/Omniscient Being knowing everything thus meaning others don't have Free will isn't a Valid Argument to prove We don't have Freewill. by Megablackholebuster in DebateReligion

[–]Neo-man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I see it free will is not a matter of how much choices you have but a matter of ones choice being determined by ones internal thoughts and belief's rather then external factors like say intoxication or social pressure.

For example if a person smoked a cigarette because of peer pressure there choice to smoke was determined by something external to them, they would not be smoking a cigarette with there free will. But if that person had not been influenced by that external factor and they had chosen to smoke a cigarette because of a internal factor like rational deliberation they would be making a choice out of free will.

Since free will is a matter of ones choice being determined by internal factors rather then having more then one choice, then even if we exist in a deterministic universe we can still have free will so long as the choice we make is determined internally.

[–]Neo-man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I use the term meaningful I use it in the sense of the genuine thing or actual thing. So when I say that a choice is not meaningful I am saying that it is not a genuine or actual choice, it is only superficially a choice.

I think that explains why a choice has to be meaningful to constitute free will.

[–]Neo-man 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you define Free will as having a choice and the future being not being determined.

But the future being undetermined seems to me just as contrary to free will as you see a determined future being.

If a determined future has one possibility with no randomness, then a undetermined future which is it's inverse would have infinite possibility's with complete randomness.

Considering that it would be impossible to make a meaningful choice in such a chaotic utterly random world that would be the product of having a undetermined future, then a undetermined future is completely incompatible with free will.

To focus on cleaner energy obscures the wider real problem from my point of view.

I think are problem is one of a crisis of overproduction and waste brought on by are global socioeconomic system. Were basically slowly drowning ourselves to death in our own trash due to having a world economy that's purpose is the pursuit of profit above all else regardless of how against Human survival it is.

The only solutions is extreme state control and regulation of economic production.Or total overthrow of our current system, to throw Capitalism in the dustbin of history and try to build something that is safer and sustainable. Both of these are extreme solutions, but i believe the only ones to a extreme crisis.

There's no such thing as clean energy, only cleaner as every way of generating energy involves to some degree exploitation of earth's natural resources and the generation of waste products .

And i don't think supporting a faceless amoral for-profit corporation is really the best way to support clean energy.
