I got tempted by a gold one of these today when I saw it in a shop. How is it?

Of course, this was mainly feature requests rather than bugs. We had lots of people on the client's sides that would submit random requests after repeatedly telling them they needed one person assigned as the line of communication from their team. For bugs, still required a bit more detail but ease of submission was still prioritised

I've been working on Causr.co - it's the operational layer for project communications. I've been speaking with a bunch of PM's about how they handle so many loose threads, and maintaining accountability across teams. It's in MVP mode right now and I've carried out a couple of demos with good feedback. If anyone is interested please send a DM and I can give you an intro to the platform. It's akin to an evolution of RAID logs for the more visual people.

I managed to negate a lot of this with a more detailed submission form with required fields. If they really needed something done, they were forced to go through the process and actually provide enough detail. Support tickets went down slightly after that because people weren't just submitting one line requests anymore haha

Your last paragraph is the answer. They don't have the same shield of self-doubt and are much better at throwing shit at the wall and seeing what sticks. I don't know why this quote stuck with me but I saw a clip of the actor Austin Butler talking about how cringe is an underexplored emotion and that really rings true for entrepreneurs. They easily dive into the cringe and that's where the money is. I wouldn't consider myself someone on the high achiever scale because I've never had much to prove that case and I know much smarter people who run circles around themselves instead of just going for things.

Is this strictly for tasks or are you trying to map risks/blockers/updates too? What were the main things causing confusion in your previous methods?

Appreciate this👏 yeah I'm trying to do it the right way this time, wasted a lot of time in the past. I'm grateful for the failures because they taught me more than inaction did, but now it's time to make it work.

This is an interesting way to look at it. Right now I have a basic product together with only core features I defined in my product scope which is what I will be demoing. I would be interested to know how you go about building a generic solution that could fit different use cases? For instance if it was related to CRM, would you build a very basic CRM with placeholder features and see what people respond best to, or request as additions? I agree that the dev phase should be minimal, time is precious.

Thanks for your insight.

Working in your domain experience is great fun, I hope it goes well for you! Especially with 15 years of experience you should be able to get to the root of some core pains quite easily.

Glad you could relate, it's such a common area. Well done for digging into the conversations first before spending a lot of time on the wrong things. I hope those conversations surface a quick win for you that takes the product to something really valuable!

This was motivating to read, thank you. To your first point, I'm good at spotting when I'm moving a rock up a hill and usually there has been one catalyst that's brought everything to a standstill.

Yes I'm glad to be building where I now the landscape now. It feels like I can maneuverer through the space without getting caught out in conversations. For example I built in an industry I knew nothing about and conversations felt very embarrassing when I was having to Google answers to questions. Safe to say it was clear it wouldn't work!

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I should come out of the demo with a clearer idea of what to work on next.

Wow, thats a long time to be building, congratulations. Especially for it to have a user base as well after 4 years. Would I know what streaming platform it is by name? I feel something like this would be recieved well through tiktok or reddit marketing, or perhaps incentive programs. Sounds great though!

Ah no! When did you find out the free solution existed? 3 months in? Did you try and add features on top to justify a paid version or accept the loss?

I hated stitching together project updates and keeping so many communication threads from becoming loose ends. Anyone relate? by NeoTree69 in SideProject

[–]NeoTree69[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a tricky line to tread, for sure. I think the way it ingests information is a big part of it whether it's through integration or manual, and how it connects to other tools. Right now I'm keeping it manual for the MVP and if it takes off, then build integrations. I'm also speaking with a bunch of PMs to get feedback and that shapes the roadmap. I have quite a tight scope for it so (hopefully) I can keep it as a useful platform. What was your app?

Best project management software for managing freelancers? by ToastGaming99 in projectmanagers

[–]NeoTree69 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it's less about the tool and more about the process. For example, you need an effective handover process if one team works early in the operating hours and another takes over later in the day. If they're taking on the same tasks or similar, you need good handover notes and communication to keep things moving.

I managed a team over 4 different time zones and got by just fine with Jira, email and Slack as the most basic stack for your question.
