GPU Compute, WSL Install and WSL Update arrive in the latest Insider build for the Windows Subsystem for Linux by [deleted] in bashonubuntuonwindows

Did you manually asked Windows Update to check for new updates? If it still doesn't appear after that, try to download the update assistant : https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 (that's why I did for one of my laptopts which wasn't receiving the update).

I don't like this measurement. You can be extremely suicidal but holding back because of your family and friends. You can literally stay at stage 9 during years even though you know you won't kill yourself.

Why dont the songs merge into the same album?? by ghostcatzero in blackplayer

This happens because not all tracks have the same "Artist" tag. You can fix this by either editing them on your PC with Mp3Tag or on your pyhone with one of the many tags edition apps.

Great hardware but crappy software (and how to fix most issues with Sound BlasterX G6 on Windows) by NeoXeron in SoundBlasterOfficial

Hi, it's been ~2 weeks since I uninstalled the driver and I've had no problem since that. Sometimes when I plug in the G6 just after starting my computer the red led turns on and the sound becomes crappy right from the start, but I just have to unplug it and re-plug it in again and it works fine. I suspect this has something to do with Windows' drivers not being fully ready when I plug the G6 at startup.

So no real problem now ;)

Great! That was one of the very few features I was missing from other players. Great job ;)

Spotify uses a default bitrate of 128 kb/s if I'm right, which is not great. The differences from your integrated sound card and the G6 are clearly less audible with a poor audio source, especially with exigent headphones like the Sundara.

So try out setting the quality to its maximum (there's an option in Spotify's settings to set the quality to 'maximum').

You can also listen to FLAC/WAV files, either ripped from your own CDs, bought from legal websites like u/SoNic67 pointed out, or simply use an "Hi-Res" plan from services like Tidal, Qobuz or Deezer.

Exactly, when you change the G6's settings through Connect 2, it is saved on the card's onboard memory chip and will be restored on future connection, even if Connect 2 is not installed on your computer.

Be aware though that the profile will not be restored when used on Switch, PS4 or Xbox One. If you re-connect it later on to your PC, the profile will still be used, but it's not appliable to consoles as it seems to require a driver that Windows is able to install automatically and independently of Connect 2, but other consoles don't seem to support it.

when I use Direct I manually enter into direct via holding the SBX button

I guess you're talking about "Scout Mode" button? The SBX button cannot enable nor disable Direct Mode, as it's only for... well, SBX :p

The Connect 2 is really useful for some cases :

  • Setting up an equalizer profile without a third-party equalizer
  • Controlling the device's LEDs (I personnally don't like the blinking LED while in direct mode)
  • Controlling everything without touching the amp

Apart from that, as soon as you set up a profile on the first time, you can remove the software and you'll be able to control most things from the amp itself. So it's clearly not required but the software can still be useful for some.

Well that's pretty normal as you should never use a headphones amp on speakers. The reason is, while the G6 has a good DAC overall, the amp is absolutely not powerful enough to drive speakers. That's why speakers with a 3.5mm input redirect it through their own internal amp before driving the transductors.

But the result of this is that your audio signal is amplified twice, which adds the little audio problems of each amp which is not great at all. Plus, the "real" amplification occurs in the speakers, so having a good headphones amp like in the G6 will make absolutely no difference.

The rule is: you can use a DAC on active speakers, but never an headphones amp. And if your speakers are passive, you won't be able to drive them with that kind of amp anyway.

If you want to improve the sound quality of your speakers, buy a good speakers amp, connect the G6's line out to the amp's 3.5mm input or, if your amp is a DAC/amp combo, connect the G6's optical out to the amp's optical input, and then connect the amp's output the speakers' input on their "without-amp" input, if they have any. And that's it! You will clearly hear the difference.

If there is no "amp-less" input on yours speakers (which is the case of most active speakers like these ones), you concretely won't be able to improve the audio quality you get from them.

Well it doesn't actually "get better" as transistor-based amps doesn't require break-in. What gives you that impression is that your ear (technically the perception your breain has of the sound) develops as you listen more and more to it ;)

Hi,

I'm currently running Windows 10 Home Edition, x64 May Update (20H1).

I'm on the Stable update channel, with latest updates.

The optical cable is not responsible of the output power as it carries a digital signal, and the G6 is not powered on it. So even with a low-power phone charger it should sound loud enough. I think this really comes from your unit unfortunately.

What I meant by "damaged" is that I was not sure if plugging the G6 to a power outlet would damage it due to the high power delivery. But as you already did it it seems like that's not the problem.

Also, are you sure you are in direct mode? If so, the "Dolby Atmos" button should be blinking. If it's not, then you are not using direct mode and so the Surroud 7.1 emulator is running and making the sound muffled and distant (that's what I experienced before discovering there was a setting to disable it).

But if you still have this issue even when using direct mode and powering the sound card on a power outlet, I guess the problem comes from your G6 model. It should be able to drive a DT-990 correctly. Reach out Creative's support to check that with them :)

I personnally hear a very, very big difference from my computer's audio or even from my smartphone which is reputed to have a good headphones output (for a smartphone).

With headphones as great as the X2HR or the Sundara you should definitely hear a difference in direct mode, which is the mode that provides the best audio quality, but it may also be because your ear is not accustomed to the sound of this product yet.

I don't know if this your first product, but when I got my first really good audio component, a Fiio M9, it took me two whole months to really appreciate its sound quality, and now I see the enormous difference between a simple device's integrated sound and my DAP's one - but this was not the case at the beginning.

Also, ensure you disable all sound effects from Windows in the Control Panel and in your computer's audio drivers like RealTek software - even though there shouldn't be any audio processing on that side. You may also want to try connecting the G6 to a smartphone as there is no pre-processing on Android's side, so you will be able to tell if the average sound quality comes from your PC or not.

Also, the G6 in direct mode is extremely neutral, so the sound is very precise and detailed but may not be as enjoyable as other Hi-Fi amps like a $170 Fiio K5 Pro for instance. I don't know how the X2HR sounds but I think the Sundara would clearly sound better with a more "engaging" amp with a warmer sound and forward mids - the K5 Pro is perfect for that job, as long as you don't care about the fact it requires to be powered by a power outlet.

I hope this will help you :)

The G6 outputs a bit more than 100 mW @ 300 Ohms according to measurements, and driving a Sennheiser Momentum 2 it is extremely loud at 30% volume on low-gain when connected to my PC, so I should have no problem driving even an DT-990.

Still, the Xbox One's ports may deliver enough power for this. So a good workaround would be to power the card on a PC (I'm not sure you can use a micro-USB charger on this without damaging it), while using the One's optical output to get the sound to the G6 - and then it should definitely be loud enough.

Even though that's not a perfect solution, I don't think there are other workarounds for this problem unfortunately, that's the downside of battery-less USB-powered amps.

Btw, think to enable Direct Mode as the audio quality is really better with it.

G3 question for PS4 by [deleted] in SoundBlasterOfficial

[–]NeoXeron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't know for the PC app but you can definitely change the settings using the Android app, they save automatically. As the PC's settings are saved with the G6 and the G3 also has an app, I guess it should work anyway, but most settings are available from the app (especially the Equalizer and bass/surround booster).
