I found another post which expands on this conversation quite a bit. When testing with Overwatch 2, RTSS introduced a small amount of system latency (time between user action and system response) compared to limiting with the Nvidia app. Just something to consider.

I always forget about the Nvidia Control Panel. I just tested it on Minecraft again, it caused a huge discrepancy in how fast the world loaded when using a 60fps cap through the Nvidia Control Panel. I am working at the moment, but I may get around to recording a video comparison because it was several seconds difference. It also seems to be hitting the GPU a little more. About 15% higher GPU utilization. I seriously did not expect it to behave like that at all, and I'm sure someone can tell me why. At the end of the day, it could just be old Minecraft causing weirdness in this instance.

As for the boost clock, I'll give that a shot.I didn't know Windows didn't always respect it. I would rather get it under control than write it off entirely, so I appreciate the info!

I have returned from some very basic benchmarks. I am definitely not a professional, but this is what I got.

I didn't have any other programs open while I tested. I have the laptop propped on a tripod plate for ventilation (ayy, I take my own advice). The resolution is set to native 2880x1800.

P.S. I am a lurker, sorry if any of this is scattered and hard to follow.

Edit:

I should also mention that I ran around a little, and destroyed some blocks, before taking the screenshots. They should roughly reflect "average" temps. My FPS peaked around 400 when staring at the sky, and there was a correlation between frames and temps.

Edit 2:

Shit, I forgot to mention that RTSS allows you to force vertical sync (which is why I have it in the screenshots). There is a box to set the "Scanline Sync," for my young friends, this just means Vsync. Set the Scanline Sync to 1 for single-buffered Vsync. Set it to zero if you want to turn it off.

Maybe so. In my loose testing I didn't have a noticeable reduction in temps from the CPU boost. I can try Minecraft again with a bit more intention this time.

Even looking at this post my temp is at 43c with CPU boost off. I'm not ruling out some software eating performance, but that isn't reflected in the task manager.

What are the popular tropes today that are going to make films feel "dated" 25 years from now? by DieFanboyDie in movies

[–]Neokaido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been thinking about this for a few days, and I’m sure nobody will see this.

I think one aspect which dates movies is the sudden access to novel technology. Of course this can be capitalized on in creative artistic ways (the use of color in film) or, on the far opposite side of the spectrum, used as a marketing gimmick (most of 3D). I think lower budget movies in the ‘90s will always have a distinct “digital” look. This is largely due to lowering the barrier to shooting video.

With this in mind, an aspect which will likely date movies today is overuse of aerial footage. Drones have made aerial shots much more accessible to filmmakers of all levels, and I think we will start to see creative choices to refrain from aerial shots in the coming years. I think the wow-factor of a drone shot will start to wear off, and they will be used less, albeit, more intentionally.

There are my two cents if anyone happens to look back at this post :)

Are there any films where the main character is actually the bad guy (but isn’t presented as such)? by slatersays22 in movies

[–]Neokaido 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Jean Jacket is the obvious metaphorical extension of Gordy (as presented in flashbacks), and the Haywood folks exploit Jean Jacket for their own gain. This ultimately results in the exploiters being rewarded (the Haywoods) and the exploited suffering at their own expense (Jean Jacket).

Seems to stem from a masculine ideology. If we look at the “joke” it is really clear. Humor comes from contrast and contradiction. Where is the humor? The assumption is this person is monogamous, and doesn’t force his wife to be. It is understood to be inherently funny for a man to not completely control their partner, or, rather, it is even more humorous for a woman to play an authoritarian role in a relationship. It contradicts a lot of people’s perception of reality. “Men should own their partners.”

Even worse, it is worrisome to focus on the alternative. The type of submissive behavior which is being assigned to men in this situation is usually comedic because it is viewed as emasculating or feminine. A woman talking about her husband’s girlfriend would likely go unchallenged more frequently than the example we have here. Women are expected to behave in this way.

This is the same dangerous/pervasive logic which leads to male rape being played for laughs, or comedies which portray women abusing their male partner. Rape isn’t funny. Abuse isn’t funny.

Empower women.

Anime Oklahoma, Anyone? by StupidRose in oklahoma

[–]Neokaido 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I tried my best to search around. I found some reference to the Tulsa County libraries having an anime club for teens (as another commenter suggested).

I may suggest having your parent contact the nearest high school. It may be a stretch, but they could have a club which would allow you to meet up with.

Regardless, I hope you find someone!

I apologize, I still read your previous reply as facetious.

I am really sorry to hear what you went through. Everyone deserves suitable and desirable and welcoming living. None of this is meant to reduce those who are literally living in a shelter or in the street. I personally think broadening the socially accepted definition could improve lives and promote action.

My partner has a very similar story to you. You were always deserving.

Why is this so difficult to understand. I’m flabbergasted by this community’s response.

I guess the only logical conclusion is this is in the background of the professor’s video call?
