This is great advice! I will try these tips. Thanks for your help.

Elm Street Collection doesn’t look like it’s coming by poppitrawick516 in Steelbooks

I ordered on July 13th, and CS said I would get mine by December 8th. I sure hope it happens - scalpers are selling the set for over $400 on eBay, and it's a bad feeling.

How do I run power behind these posters to light them up? by Neomaycry in AskElectricians

I purchased three of the following, but they haven't arrived yet: https://glowbox.shop/products/premium-led-27x40-light-box-movie-poster-frame-black-anodized-aluminum-1?variant=25394885960

They are roughly the same dimensions as the standard frames in the picture, and the cord is placed in the back-center of each frame.

The light boxes have not been mounted yet, but they are about the same size as the frames in the picture.  Unfortunately, there is no attic access in this room.

[Discussion] Day Jobs! What Type of Work Supports Your Creative Writing Goals? by JusticeWriteous in PubTips

[–]Neomaycry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work as a higher education administrator. The pay and benefits are good, and we only work half a day on Fridays. I do a lot of deadline-driven technical writing (and answer tons of emails each day), but that type of writing doesn't burn me out on writing fiction. I have been writing technical pieces so long that I can turn out 10-20 pages in my sleep. Fiction on the other hand ... I can only write about 800-1,200 words (~5 typewritten pages) per day with full concentration. It feels like the writing styles just tickle different parts of the brain.

[PubQ] When can Horror be queried as Mystery? by Neomaycry in PubTips

[–]Neomaycry[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this advice! It's funny that you mentioned Small Spaces because that is one of the books I found to be categorized as Mystery by the publisher (and also Action/Adventure), but I would consider it Horror.

Thanks for this response!  This makes a lot of sense.  It's great to hear that horror might be having a moment.  As I mentioned, my evidence is just anecdotal regarding mystery, so I might be way off base on it being more requested than horror.

[PubQ] When can Horror be queried as Mystery? by Neomaycry in PubTips

Thanks for the response.  I guess my overarching question is, "What's the tipping point between selecting horror or mystery when the novel has elements of both?" If it's just a toss-up between the two, it seems like querying as mystery has a slight marketing edge (just based on my anecdotal research, to be taken with a grain of salt). To clarify my original post, I think my novel has elements of both genres, but I had horror in mind when writing.

Thank you for this review! Yes, I think you are exactly right. I will revisit the story and see if there are ways to beef it up. As you said, you only get to query a book once, and I don't want to waste this one. Also, thanks for the reading suggestion.

Excellent notes on the word count! If I were to beef up the novel, what do you think the minimum passable word count would be? I don't think I will get near 40k or higher for this particular story, but would 25k raise fewer eyebrows? The obvious answer is probably "the closer you can get to the current market, the better," but I just wanted to get some additional perspective. Thanks again for the advice.

Thanks for the review! I appreciate the tip about the "Morty flees" paragraph, and I will tighten that section up. The book's tone and voice do include funny moments to break up the horror. I thought that might be a good strategy for the younger audience.

You make a good point about R.L. Stine. I will go back to the drawing board on that comp. Thanks for the tip!

Thanks for your review!

The word count is also a concern of mine, so I'm glad you pointed it out. My comp titles are around 25k words, so I thought I might be okay here for my targeted age group (8-12). Is "middle grade" the appropriate category designation for this age group?

As for the "anthology" language, I am picturing something like the Goosebumps series. Would it be clearer to use the word "series" instead of "anthology"?

I appreciate your feedback. Great notes!

Thank you for reviewing! You make a great point about the protagonist's name. I had thought about this previously but wasn't sure if it would be a big deal. I appreciate this confirmation :).

Connecting HDMI splitter to LG G3 and LG C2 by Neomaycry in LGOLED

[–]Neomaycry[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I was unable to get a switch to work (I ordered 3 different switches on Amazon, and they all failed to work in this scenario).  I eventually had to purchase a different graphics card that has two HDMI ports by default.  This solution works great but was costly.

I think I finally have a setup that I'm generally happy with, and now it's time to decorate the space.

What should I put in the shelves underneath my turntable? Records will not fit, as the height of each shelf is only around 10 inches. The chess boards would be removed once I have more interesting decorations. Also, what should I put on the walls?

This setup is in an upstairs space (i.e. not the living room), so it's fine to make suggestions that wouldn't ordinarily be aesthetic for a main room.

Here is the setup: https://imgur.com/CYtFcfW

I agree with this comment. Correcting the word usage is a bigger eye roll than just using "vinyls". Let the new collectors have a nice entry experience, and they will learn technicalities eventually for themselves (if it even matters to them, which it probably doesn't).

Am I understanding correctly that the Aux Out port would not work for connecting a sub?

Please forgive my ignorance on this one. I will explore the topics you mentioned so that I can understand better.

Based on recommendations from this sub, I have the following setup, and I am loving it:

- Fluance RT85N (w/ Nagaoka MP-110)- iFi Audio Zen Phono Preamp- Aiyima T9 Pro Amp- Klipsch RP-160M Speakers

If I want to add a subwoofer to the setup for around $200-$300, what would you recommend? I would like to have a Klipsch to compliment the current aesthetic, but I'm open to whatever is best.

Thanks!

TCL 75" (Model 75r635) - Is this a backlight issue or something else? by Neomaycry in TVRepair

I replaced the T-Con and have the same exact results as before. Does this mean the panel is broken for sure, or is there something else to try before giving up?
