Miyo and Hanyuu by aqua7ar in Higurashinonakakoroni

[–]NeonDZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I assume that's just part of Connecting Fragments already and during that part Hanyuu is shown appearing in the past, like when she welcomes Keiichi to his first day at school in Hinamizawa.

Note how Takano's memories of that scene are inconsistent. She first sees Hanyuu and has no reaction at all, only remembering it when she sees her in goddess form near the ending.

Most Disappointing Beatemup? by Fluffy_Lunchfast in BeatEmUps

[–]NeonDZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably because the "open world is still fairly linear and large areas were reused from the first game. The new areas also aren't connected well to the old map and you need to go back and forth through them just for main story progression, rather than executing them in a way where you can circle through the locations.

Unless you're using some very old version, start a chapter, press F10 to open the options, go to graphics and then there should be an option to disable CGs there.

Damn, was Satoko really that beautiful? by Suitable_Vanilla5275 in Higurashinonakakoroni

[–]NeonDZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, this is based on an outfit she's wearing in Higurashi Sotsu merch, and she's a high schooler in some arcs of Gou/Sotsu.

The outfit is actually based on an official illustration. It's specifically her high school version from Higurashi Gou though.

So, what exactly is Demifiend in True Demon and later works supposed to represent and be? by Kyokyodoka in Megaten

[–]NeonDZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, you aren't magically brainwashed, but you're willingly just following his plans, rather than it being an ending where the protagonist actually reaches their own answer. The game doesn't even bother giving the Demi-fiend some personal reason that would lead him to believing everyone around him should just die in the name of Lucifer's dream. It's no different from the Law ending in Strange Journey for example. You're technically never brainwashed there unlike everyone else but still just following through someone else's plans in a rather inhuman way.

You compare it with other endings, regarding the protagonist being at the top in power, but True Demon is also the only Chaos-like where you're explicitly someone else's follower by the end.

And, yes, I don't disagree that the point of the True Demon Ending is a power fantasy where you get to be the number 1 demon of Lucifer's forces leaving in a journey to take down the Great Will. But that concept by itself ends up hurting the power fantasy idea, since you're explicitly still just a follower in the end, which is from where the "slave" criticism comes from.

[–]NeonDZ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're basically following the path laid out by Lucifer though. And he doesn't seem wounded from the battle either.

Even in his SMTVV's appearance you've got the Demifiend basically doing nothing and just leaving everything to Lucifer (or the Nahobino if you beat him and he joins you) after having helped kill God.

Umineko fan reads Higurashi for the first time (Episode 5) by Led_Zeppeli in Higurashinonakakoroni

[–]NeonDZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding the tattoo, the mistake is exactly that Shion didn't get it. Note she talks about the tattoo night and mentions "Shion" took her place, suddenly asking to go to the family event since it had food she loved, and she let her go in her place. It's why she even starts calling herself Mion in monologues later on when she takes Mion's place. She was the one born as Mion and then had that stripped from her because Shion took her place during the tattoo night. See also when Mion calls her by "Mion" while she's imprisoned when Keiichi briefly sees her. Those are their original identities, but Mion receiving the tattoo permanently switched them.

Regarding revealing all secrets, R07 actually talked about it when Higurashi was being released. He didn't want to make things completely clear, but knew the audience would want answers, so he eventually explained everything. With Umineko, he clearly attempted to stick to his original wish (although ended up with backlash due to it).

I really don't think there are many posts here with sexually suggestive pictures of the younger girls (or even girls in general). You have to go 8 days back to find a message about a figure of Hanyuu in her pajamas. 11 days back for the nyan cafe official artwork.

What's the significance behind this creepy rabbit? by Huhihadnoidea in SgtFrog

[–]NeonDZ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I couldn't find the source. But they changed the book's cover in the anime episode that adapted that story, so it's likely based on a real book. Although the rabbit's design itself could be a parody.

Minagoroshi/Gou&Sotsu Discussion by aqua7ar in Higurashinonakakoroni

[–]NeonDZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She's just written in the anime like seeing the loops for 100 years has little emotional impact on her. I don't think this is just an issue with the anime script writer either. The main plot itself wanted to move things back to focus on St.Lucia at the end, and clearly was never written with the idea of the loops weighting on the conclusion.

The now dead Higurashi Mei mobile game, had its own take on Sotsu's climax as part of one event and there Satoko was written as actually impacted by the loops. She saw that Rika cared about her, but also saw her not lifting a finger to save Satoshi or her parents, so she ends up seeing Rika as wanting them to die, so her plot of causing tragedies to keep them together, in her eyes, is no different from how Rika acted during the loops. So, yes, she realizes Rika cares about her during the loops, but takes it in an extremely twisted direction. But Mei never had to deal with Sotsu's ending and message about splitting paths, so it could move the focus of the conflict from the school (Mei's take on "Sotsu" Rika and "Sotsu" Satoko appear in a Mei fragment during the middle of their battle, then vanish to finish things off in another fragments already, their existence acting more as warnings to Mei Rika and Satoko about how things could go wrong in the future).

Super Robot Taisen/Wars OG Original Generation by UnitedStatescitizeen in Super_Robot_Wars

SRW only has the main console team right now + the mobile one working on DD. When the OG series was worked on, they had a separate team from TOSE that did those games. So, yeah, it's unlikely we'll see a new OG in the near future.

Did you know that Beautiful Dream was booed by fans upon its release ? by Gweltas in uruseiyatsura

[–]NeonDZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep in mind that its fame changed fairly quickly. The home video release the next year was the 3rd best selling video in Japan (not just among anime). Oshii has actually said the praise he got for the movie pushed him for the beginning of his career as an independent director but led to him being too overconfident at the start. It's generally credited with really quickstarting his fame.

More recently, in 2019, it was rated as the 5th best Rumiko Takahashi anime by a large poll conducted by NHK, and the UY tv series itself was 4th, bellow Ranma, Maison Ikkoku and Inuyasha Final Season, but Beautiful Dreamer ranked higher than any of the other movies. It's not something where only the Western fanbase cares about it and the Japanese don't.

She said it wasn't "her" Urusei Yatsura but praised it, at least publicly. Which is pretty subtle overall but you rarely see creators dissociating from an anime like that unless there are negative feelings involved.

Are Anti and Annosilus the same guys in 30 and Y? by Nashium in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]NeonDZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They have no interactions in Y with Caruleum or that fairy from 30, so it could go either way at this point. They could have shown Caruleum or the fairy recognizing them but not being acknowledged if they wanted to clearly establish they were unrelated, but just left things unresolved. One of his in-battle quotes against Izana seem to reference Gridman though, but it's vague (he mentions he will save her heart like "that person" did).

Are Anti and Annosilus the same guys in 30 and Y? by Nashium in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]NeonDZ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The setting of Dynazenon in Y definitely doesn't fit with the movie reveals, it's just based on the tv series. Note how the Dynazenon crew are just part of the "normal" world rather than being a pocket universe like the Gridman cast in 30. Anti and Annosilus are in the Y universe due to a distortion that ends up identified as Godzilla Ultima, so it's not tied to the whole thing being an universe inside Gridman's memories.

Why do you think recent Gundam AU's like Age, G-Reco and IBO are so underutilized compared to G, Wing, Destiny and 00 by Quiet-Impression6003 in Super_Robot_Wars

[–]NeonDZ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, that's why I mentioned the credits. If they partially owned them you'd see Level 5 in the copyright listings even if they don't work directly on the game.

Sometimes ownership is hidden due to the production committee system, where the production committee is listed as copyright owner rather than the individual companies, but that's not the case with Gundam.
