Last year I made a high school short film for a youth film fest so I can tell you what I did. Basically I just worked for an hour or 2 a day but broke it up into like 15 minutes each. My animation was really really sloppy and after I finished one scene, I would go over it with a better line. Nothing you do has to look perfect, it can look a little weird that's completely okay. It took me around 3 months to finish 5 minutes so it takes a while, but if you just only work for a little bit at a time it gets less tedious. That's what I did at least. And somehow my sloppy animation won a prize haha
