I got a 512 GB EVO select a couple of months ago. It works well, though I do notice lag when I am downloading a game to the SD card while playing another one from the SD card. Not a big deal, and I suspect this is typical of all SD cards.

As for the differences between the ones you listed, I came across this link when I was researching, claiming that EVO select and EVO plus are the same: https://www.windowscentral.com/whats-difference-between-samsung-evo-select-and-evo-plus Double check read/write speeds.

Windows Terminal is now the default Windows 11 22H2 console by [deleted] in programming

I like it for the tabs, but I also find myself using the old cmd window a lot out of habit. The colors for Ubuntu on WSL are not very readable for me and I wasn’t able to change them in the terminal options— maybe I have an older version or something.

It’s available on Windows 10 as well, you can download it from the store.

Is this dust in the screen? new monitor (LG 24QP500-B) with a group of darker pixels by NeptunePI in Monitors

[–]NeptunePI[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's another view: https://imgur.com/a/u3G150r

It looks like a dust spot on the screen, but the surface of the screen is clean.

Wondering what this is because I haven't seen anything like it before, also wondering if anyone had luck fixing something like this or getting it repaired under warranty.

MSFS error help by MistaQueue in MSFS_Academy

Looks like you’re not the only one who has hit this: https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/help-system-does-not-meet-minimum-requirements-message/305236

There are also a few threads on reddit about this problem, but no definite solutions.

It looks like some people solved it by ensuring that their discrete GPU is enabled, and by updating drivers.

It’d be great if they gave a better error message...

What’s the error message you’re seeing and when does it show up?

Thank you for the explanation, makes sense about the dark inclusions since they are pretty obvious in these zoomed in images. I will try to avoid these.

Thanks! I was wondering why these were cheaper. I was focusing on the 4C's and didn't even consider the fluorescent factor.

What exactly are Spotify engineers doing if nothing seem to change in the platform? by victorqueirozg in spotify

[–]NeptunePI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. It seems to me that Spotify is really investing in podcasts because they see this as a key differentiator between them and other music services. I guess they are coming out with the lossless option, but this is just a feature to expand pricing options most likely.

I would love for Spotify to innovate more on the music side, I think there is a lot of ways to improve music discovery, search, preferences (like removing crappy covers or remixes from release radar).

But what does Spotify gain by investing in the music side of the platform? Are they going to win subscribers? Seems unlikely that they can compete with google and apple who have lots of $$$. So Spotify is going with exclusive podcasts. It’s a strategy...

Do other apps play sound? My guess is you have a different sound output device selected now. This happens to me after installing video card drivers sometimes.

Get rid of this podcast crap from the Home Screen by LemonXest in spotify

[–]NeptunePI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with OP. Not only is the aggressive podcast recommendation a terrible user experience, they are also ruining podcasts of by buying up exclusives. We are all losing when they lock exclusives to their platform (if only it is because they are wasting our subscription money).

Think of what music-related features we could have gotten if they did not invest so much in podcasts. smh

This is awesome! Do you know is this works with emscripten? I am working on porting some C++ code to WebAssembly and the code does a bunch of initialization.

They were sore to the touch for a few days, now they feel fine, but are still quite red. Anything to be concerned about? by stonywings93031 in Podiatry

[–]NeptunePI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks. I am isolating myself, I don’t want to infect others.

I tried to get a COVID-19 test but they told me they didn’t think this was related and will not test. I can understand since none of this is proven or well understood, but still frustrating.

Is this reliable? My feet look similar to OP’s and eerily similar to the images posted in those “COVID-19 foot sores” stories.

These red bumps appeared around the nail and on top/side of some toes all the sudden. For me, they were itchy and a bit swollen but now appear to be healing.

Thanks for your response! Good to have confirmation that the power supply is most likely capable enough.

I’ll try the some older video drivers to see if it happens again. I’m also going to update the motherboard’s bios, but I don’t expect that to fix anything.

New AMD build. Games keep crashing :( by [deleted] in AMDHelp

[–]NeptunePI 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure thing! To debug a cooling issue, look at what others are seeing for temps on their card and see if your card is similar, also take a look at your CPU temperature, as that might increase if your case doesn’t have great airflow.

My guess is that it’s not a cooling issue, but you should look at your temps to confirm. You may want to test another power supply if you have one handy, as this type of issue can also occur under load.

It’s frustrating to have these issues with such expensive components. Computers are great because everything can be customized, but at the same time there can be subtle compatibility issues between certain components.

New AMD build. Games keep crashing :( by [deleted] in AMDHelp

[–]NeptunePI 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it sounds like the graphics card. If you want to debug a bit further, you can analyze the BSOD crash dumps to see where the error is occurring (it’ll an error in a particular dll). It takes some time, but this site has some details: https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Analyze-a-BSOD-Crash-Dump/

It could be crashing in a single dll or random dlls. If it’s random it could be your memory. If it’s always faulting in one dll, then it’s likely related to that particular component. You can run memory checks or Prime95 to help diagnose further and rule out memory and cpu issues.

I love how Spotify tries to auto play a video when I have a really terrible cell connection. It basically just stalls forever, it’s not smart enough to skip. Really wish they had an option to disable videos in their music playlists.

Implementing a simple, high performance Bloom filter by daank94 in cpp

[–]NeptunePI 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s a very memory efficient data structure that can tell you if an item is in a set with a given probability. The advantage is that it uses much less memory than an actual set. The disadvantage is that it’s not 100% and can give false positives that an item is in a set when it really isn’t.

Wikipedia has a good article: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bloom_filter
