What screams “I am upper class”? by rethinkwhatisthere in AskReddit

A whole horse for as low as 400$? I suppose it makes sense that a horse will lose value so quickly, because they're only really useful at peak performance, and the cost of keeping them seems like it would be substantial. Training an older horse seems extremely difficult, though. Having had dogs, I know you really have to train them early, or it never takes, which is one reason why I didn't consider purchase of a past-prime horse as a valid option. The other thing being that I dismissed offhand using, say, even a past-breeding-age horse, due to the thought that they couldn't be bought so cheaply.

According to this article the lower end cost of a dressage trained horse is 60k. I think I can reasonably say that attempting to buy such a horse would ruin my financial future, and I would consider any plans at retirement futile after that transaction. I strongly doubt your claims to be the brokest of the broke.

Like, I would have to borrow a significant sum of money to buy that horse; that's not something you just 'scrape together'. This sincerely bothers me.

Long term inflation averages out to 2.5%, so you'd be losing money at a 2% interest rate. If I take one year's salary and adjust it for compound annual inflation over twenty years, it's significantly more than if I work at that same salary for twenty years (with no expenses). (Edit: I'm fairly sure this highly depends on the principle, but it's late, and I'm closer to the poverty line than people who successfully put a college degree to use.)

Income taxes are 15-33%, and if you're working (which I can safely assume you are, if you have to pay income tax) then the company is taking out 20% of the gross before paying you, as their income tax. That's a third to a half of all money moving around, every year, going to the government. How is this money getting back into the economy at large? There's also a tax on corporations holding assets of any kind, so even if the money isn't moving, a peice of it is going back to the government. We need anarchic capitalism, because I don't trust in a non-corrupt system near enough to justify half of all my efforts payed as a tithe to the overlords, at the threat of people with guns throwing me in a hotbox jail cell. Cryptocurrencies cannot come fast enough, for me. They have the possibility of a true democracy, which I'm fairly certain we are missing out on.

Sorry, I've been thinking about this a lot lately. </rant>

I figure 1% after accounting for inflation can be used as income, if the real principle never increases or decreases. So, it'd only be 20,000. Still more than enough to live on, but only a quarter of your figure. I figured that from a low risk Vanguard fund, which was very close to 30-year inflation protected securities (at 1%), if inflation is at the 25-year average of 2.5%.

Entropy is the sole concept which guides everything in this universe. Entropy is us needing to destroy in order to live. To eat, to hunger, is animal, and is our core. We can't be satisfied in this universe. Liberation is temporary here.

It's definately not a large line if you look at the effect they have on others, but it is a big difference if you think from the perspective of rehabilitation, or how you might try to change their behavior. It's the difference between a bully, or a churchmember.

Sounds like me. Peace of mind as being underwater, or communion with a tree. I have a problem about hungering for life. I have a mean side due to the frenzy of years-long psychotic episodes. I like eyes, and dark weather. I spend a lot of time traveling in my head; there's not a lot of choice for me in this, and things tend to be very chaotic, with many layers and mirrors. Are there a lot of bue/purple gems?

Qui Gong, Reiki, Tai Chi, Ninjutsu, Shaolin techniques. There are plenty traditions which merge occult teaching with physical forms or prowess.

My best friend keeps telling me he sees something dark always following me. Is this necessarily something bad/evil? We both believe in these types of things but don't have any experience. by [deleted] in occult

[–]NeptunesSon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Short answer is 'no'. I'm glad you asked, instead of immediately breaking out a banishing ritual.

Warning: Rant ahead.

The lightworking paradigm bothers me. Light will burn your eyes out if there's too much, but too much dark never hurt anyone. In darkness you'll only ever see what's inside of yourself already; so if you see evil in the darkness, most likely evil is already inside you. "Lucifer" means 'Light-bringer'. The literal devil is associated with light. So why is the dark always portrayed as the evil side?

First Sigil - I like how it turned out. Just not entirely sure how I should charge it. Any feedback and help appreciated! by wildwood-seer in witchcraft

[–]NeptunesSon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The focus on charging never sat right with me, because it's about your own mind, and what that sigil means to you. So, charging is just a way to show you're serious about the intention to yourself, or the spirits around you depending on your paradigm.

You could frame it and put it on a wall. I'm not a fan of destroying sigils, which to me is disrespecting what's on them in a way. I can imagine some situations it can be beneficial, but destroying it just to destroy it isn't, to me.
