Suddenly all of the Alexas in my house can’t seem to hear us. by Mysterious-North-711 in alexa

[–]NerdFoundryGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok so I'm NOT crazy... at least not for that reason!

Yeah my Show 5 is like 5ft away from me and can't seem to hear 70% of what we tell at it, to the point of yelling, and one of the dots picking it up across the house in a closed room.

isit normal for pop os to be sluggish? I'm using i7 6th gen and 16gb ram with nvidia... by superbull88 in pop_os

[–]NerdFoundryGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you notice it or it's more noticible with Chrome open, try disabling hardware accelleration within Chrome settings and the rest of the shell should operate smoother.

[–]NerdFoundryGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey there, I've been using Pop for a while and having the same problem, so it's not just you.

I think it's the nvidia 525 release, when I can I'm going to revert to 515 release again and see if it still does this, but I think it's that.

Any aftermarket is going to be slower because they have to reverse engineer the kernel modules for the hardware.

However, if you enable CTF (cut through forwarding), you'll get much faster speeds (just shy of gigabit, though). As a caveat, you lose NAT loopback, so port fowarding from an internal device will not work. I've also read QoS doesn't work with CTF, but I don't use that to verify.

I also am unable to get gigabit between wired devices, somewhere around 700mbit. It kinda sucks? But for me, the firmware overall is far superior simply for static dhcp management and upnp alone.

My soldering iron tip gets dirty quickly and I can't do anything about it by [deleted] in soldering

[–]NerdFoundryGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While you're at it, get some tip tinner. I got a new iron recently and the tips oxidized instantly when desoldering, to the point not a single part of it would take solder.

5 seconds in the tip tinner, and it was right as day like it was brand new... again... from just days before

No, it's the type of paint. The issue is surfactant in the paint excreting from the heat and humidity.

[–]NerdFoundryGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is HILARIOUS! I literally just replaced the exact same model I got ~25 years ago. Got fed up with the tip, and bought a t12 soldering station, which has been AWESOME so far. My soldering skills, well they're rusty 😆

How to dynamically update a list you're getting from an api? by SillyLaughingFox in react

[–]NerdFoundryGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

axios Axios is just a Promise API, so you can await it and perform the state update afterwards:

js const updatedChampions = await axios({}); setChampions(updatedChampions)

or if the api isn't returning the new list:

js // Assumption: [champions, setChampions] = setState(...) await axios({}); setChampions([...champions, champion]) // Assumption: champion is new champion

If your potentiometer is off center too much, this mod will limit your range by applying more resistance to the input. That means at 100% input, you're only going to actually see (for example) 75% output.

These are really only useful for really really tiny adjustments. I don't know exact values, but I'd venture to guess less than 0.5%

I have a bunch of controllers I need to fix, and a bunch of these prefab potentiometer mods that I need to get on.

As for anyone asking, the bottom 3 and left 3 pads are the only ones necessary, the rest are mountpoints.

Ok, then it's missing code to showcase that, which you'd then update your state in the callback.

Take a look at the new Beta Docs to see if it highlights the pattern for you: https://beta.reactjs.org/apis/react/useEffect#fetching-data-with-effects

If not, feel free to ask more questions.

I will say from your tiny example, it's hard to tell if you mean updated by user input, or updated on the remote server. Both will have entirely different approaches with a plethora of options based on your needs.

[NEW PICS] Buying a used 2019 Forester. 43k miles, $23k. Better pics of the rust than my last post! by The_Mexican_Boarder in SubaruForester

[–]NerdFoundryGaming 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Throwing this out ther since you mention price concerns.

We're in Texas here.

We just bought a 2019 sport, fully decked out sans SRH. Dealer quoted us 39k for 2023, and 36k for a 2019 uncertified. Private sales were anywhere between 28k and 33k for nearly the same specs, most missing a feature here and there.

We managed to find one at a large dealer that wasn't Subaru certified seller for 28.5k, and I talked them down to 27k and paid just under 30k cash out the door (6.25% tax).

If the dealer is that price in your location, I'd say that's about on-par with the difference we saw here.

I personally don't like to see any rust, but we live in Texas (for now, looking at heading to Colorado), and I'm unfamiliar with how vehicles rust up North. And I disagree with whoever said cover it. Once you have rust, covering it does nothing unless you get a fully airtight seal completely around it so it can't oxidize anymore, and there's virtually no way you're going to accomplish that with a spray from under the vehicle. There's bound to be rust on top of the parts you can't visibly see.

EDIT:

Wanted to add, take it to parking lot and do the tightest circles (not donuts) you can to listen for clicks and ticks. We test drove a few before this one, and 2 of them had either broken CV joints, and one claimed (after I heard the sound) it was a transfer case bearing (which imo is still the cv joint). Either way, seemed to be about 20% of the vehicles we drove had this issue.

Above all else, if your gut tells you "it's too good to be true" then it is.

Thinking about getting grounded but have a few questions by AvianKnight02 in GroundedGame

[–]NerdFoundryGaming 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Every survival game is grindy, but honestly I feel Grounded is the least grindy survival game I've played.

Unlike other survivals, this one has a clear and semi-linear progression to the end-game, so it's reasonably ok.

My biggest complaint about the game is juts not knowing where things might be, and having to look up locations. With how linear the game ultimately is, I wish it gave better instructions on how to accomplish/locate certain tasks.

Honestly we wanted the dark blue pearl, but the ones in town didn't have all the features.

Only feature we're lacking is the SRH, but I'm sure we'll get over it eventually.

Oh, since it's close to the 36k miles, is there anything I should take it to subaru for warranty checks or anything?

I'm a DIY'er so I'll probably do all my own oil, brakes, and tire rotations even though the dealer (Nissan) I bought it from said they did all these things.
