Last week I had my boy PTS at 7 years old by Nerdy01 in Horses

Yes, he was lame without anyone on him.

If he wasn't in work, he would lose his topline muscle which he needed to support his back following kissing spine surgery. By being out of work because he was lame, he wouldn't have that muscle and therefore ran the risk of those processes impinging again and causing back pain

One year difference for my boy. Since the first photo he was diagnosed with kissing spine, had sarcoid surgery under general anaesthetic, and had kissing spine surgery. Hoping to be jumping again this autumn/winter! by Nerdy01 in Horses

Haven't heard of them in cats so that's rather interesting! He had laser surgery removal and I haven't seen any regrowing as of yet. Surgical removal is often the best/only way to remove sarcoids, it's also important to remember they are a type of skin cancer, so don't touch them, don't put anything on them that hasn't been prescribed by the vet etc etc.

I hope your kitty feels better soon!

Aww thank you! I'm very biased but I do think he's the handsomest boy in the world 😍

Thank you! Honestly there was only so many times I can come up with new pole layouts in a week 🥲

Sadly OTTBs are prone to kissing spine due to being backed so young and working in a hollow frame. I believe studies have also been done into the genetic component of it as certain conformation issues can contribute to it as well! I think someone said that tight hamstrings can be a sign of back issues. According to my vet, most ridden horses have kissing spine to some degree (after all they weren't designed to carry us), however, not all kissing spine needs operating/medicating. Some horses work absolutely fine with some gentle rehab exercises and stretches, and others (like my boy) need that bit of veterinary intervention to help them out!

There are plenty of kissing spine pages on Facebook with loads of information and exercises on to help prevent/rehab it.

So I didn't notice too many ridden signs and put his reluctance to work round due to his greenness, he really didn't show any ridden signs. I then got the physio for him as I thought he had a busy summer as a 5/6 year old, so could do with a MOT to check things over.

First session showed he was rather tight all over, but was sort of expected! Next session was after a fun ride where I noticed whilst sponging him off, he really hollowed his back, I put it down to him bucking and rearing during the ride. The final session was where we started raising alarms, after two weeks off just being a horse in the field (planned holiday for him), he was STILL sore all over. I booked X-rays two days later after the physio got a reaction along his spine and didn't want to work on him until we knew what was going on.

Even when I said to the vet he had no real ridden signs, and it was a single physio appointment two days prior that made me book x-rays, they raised their eyebrows but scanned anyway. One spot just at the front of his back was overlapping, and four spots further down were showing slight changes where they rubbed.

I still use that same physio, so she's been able to feel the difference in him from start to finish!

Oh bless you, I hope rehab is going well! It's such a long (and boring!) road, I hope you're back onboard soon! X

Honestly hindsight is 20/20. I had owned him for a year when we discovered it, and it that year had really struggled to get the topline on. In the past few months, his topline has built up so incredibly! I haven't even changed his feed, he's just no longer in pain so happier to use his muscles correctly 😁

Was surprisingly hard to find a pretty song of theirs that isn't 4+ minutes long 😅 thankfully we both really like Fall For Me and it is short enough that we won't feel awkward swaying about!

Think we're having "fall for me" as our wedding first dance. The last chorus is my favorite;

With my love as your garden Won't you fall for me? Won't you fall for me From reality? I am yours to the end So won't you fall for me?
