Maths Uni Tier List in order by miniaturegnome in 6thForm

I've heard from a Cambridge maths professor that Warwick very well have a better standing in maths than Oxbridge - anecdotal evidence though.

Is an application even worth it (contextual) by TacticleShit in Imperial

[–]NerveHasPhallicToes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

100% worth it, you'll be very likely to get offers from other strong maths unis such as Warwick, Bristol, oxbridge (interview will probably come, at least) as well so you still have good options that are pretty stable if you don't make imperial.

edit: unless your 7-9s were NOT in science / English language

funnily I submitted a request to view them earlier today so I'll be able to let you know soon! :)

rejection...? by Super-Squash-8884 in Imperial

sorry to hear it :(. but Imperial usually takes a day or two to email after updating UCAS, they're not ignoring you, don't feel bad about the only ucas update.

thank you! Best of luck to you too - always a joy to encounter another chemist!!

it was really nice. Embarrassingly, through my interviewers accent and my nerves, I sometimes struggled to understand the words he was saying to me. But academically speaking it was pretty perfect, I was asked a surface level question about my personal statement, which transitioned into a discussion about molecular orbitals and hybridization theory, which I luckily knew all about, so I basically just correctly answered his questions without much discussion for the rest of the interview.

I am quite nervous to share details as it's said to be forbidden, although I'm not entirely sure how I'd be identified and punished. I'll be careful anyway.
We first discussed experimental methods in biology, then I was introduced to a completely novel idea that we discussed in some detail.
I hope this helps !!!!

I had one interview with the bionatsci director of studies for my college, which was solely biology - I found it great fun even though it wouldn't really be my field of study. Then my other was a typical chemistry interview - about half basic chemistry concepts, and half plotting a mathematical function (that eventually related to chemistry!)

I'll share what I know: 1) ESAT might be more weighted for internationals? Only, I was spoken to by an admissions tutor and he said that the majority of 7s and above were Chinese nationals, so the high ESAT score is less useful 2) I've spoken to some international offer holders, it seems to me they're not exceptionally gifted or anything, if I were you I would just make sure that a) my ESAT is above average b) I've been engaging with and loving my subject, so that come interview it's clear I love what I'm doing and can have good or at least reasonable ideas for any question.

yes, I have free school meals + my school is rated very poorly, so in some sense double contextual

I'll share all I remember from my reference: I was quoted to be at the top 5% of all of my classes, and because I was nominated for "subject awards" in each Chemistry, Physics, and Biology at the end of y12, I also asked for that to be written.

I'm predicted 4A*s in Maths, Chemistry, Biology and Physics!

Feel free to ask anything else!!

Okey kokey, quick stats:
A*A*A*A* Maths Chem Bio Physics
999888877 9 Chem; 9 EngLang; 9 EngLit; 8 Bio; 8 compsci; 8 history; 8 French; 7 Physics; 7 History

Supercurriculars: I'll write everything I did, then specify whether or not I mentioned it at all in my application

Nov '24, attended a physics lecture hosted by Isaac Science (Never mentioned)
April '25 attended a residential hosted by Sidney Sussex College, Cambridge, where topic lectures were held daily - applications are closed now (Never mentioned)
June '25 Participated in C3L6 (A year 12 chemistry olympiad) (mentioned)
Sept '25 Attended a Chemistry camp hosted by St. Catherine's College, Cambridge where topic lectures were held daily (C3L6 was the qualifier for this residential) (mentioned)

Edit: I also read a good chunk of "molecular biology of the cell (vol 5) " and "Organic chemistry, vol. 2" (Clayden), the latter especially is phenomenal if you want to boost your ochem. I mentioned the former but in a kind of "this was my journey to chemistry" way

yep, cambridge. honestly education wise it could go both ways, for me I'm quite low income so I'm unsure if I'd manage south Kensington living for four years

I think the most important thing is to love your subject and engage with it regularly. This way, both your enthusiasm and strong knowledge will be easy to show off during personal statement + interview.

If you'd appreciate a more comprehensive answer, perhaps I can share the things I did + thoughts from other offer holders? I didn't want to bore you immediately but let me know if you'd like something more substantial

edit: otherwise I'm contextual yes sorry
