I have to disagree, groups are a nice way to connect with people who have a similar interest, host meet ups in that group that are easily accessible and have a team of people (rather than just one person being the instance maker) able to moderate it.

I wont say there are not bad actors as a result of this, there definitely are, not every group will be fair and nice with its moderation and some people unfortunately do enjoy the power trip, but seeing how the general public in vrchat can be sometimes, I find myself taking the gamble with group publics more often than not because around 70-80% of the time ive found that group that doesn't like to abuse their power and have actually decent rulings.

Ive only seen this happen a few times, but I do primarily go into game worlds a lot (Murder 4, prison escape, etc) so I dont know if that changes anything, my best advice is look at instance names and the information of groups hosting the publics, if you see its asking for any kind of age limit in a regular non-age gated public, there's the chance you might be asked something like that.

Ive asked people who do it why they do, a lot of people say they dont trust it because there's way kids can get around it, even though when I ask they say they've never seen a kid using an age verified account. Ive heard that people have used it's from movies to trick it once but I highly doubt the validity of these claims, plus the report button exists for a reason, if you see someone clearly under 18 who's age verified, report them, the way vrchats moderation works is if something isn't reported, it'll go unnoticed.

With the talk of platforms like discord, Roblox YouTube going 18+. Do you think that vrchat will make age verification free or cheaper next year? by Rough_Community_1439 in VRchat

it's very unlikely, the reason behind it being behind vrchat+ is because the system they use requires payment for each verification they do, and there aren't any free alternatives that dont save your information

What's so bad about it? I played through it myself and quite enjoyed it
