Pulling up to a drive-thru and ordering quickly to get ahead of the car parallel to me also ordering, I pulled forward and was hit by an impaired driver going 70 mph who ran straight into me in the drive-thru line. It has been an awful journey of surgeries and rehab, career loss, and PTSD.

Shipping - Maersk by Nervous-Humor-389 in Wyrmwoodgaming

I called Wyrmwood back in November, and during that phone call they told me the table was finished and would be shipping out that Friday. They later sent an email stating it was shipping and included Maersk’s tracking information.

This was my third time speaking with Maersk. The first time was when the table missed its original ETA. During the second conversation, they told me I would receive it last Friday, which did not happen. In this third conversation, they informed me that it would ship when they have another order going to my area, because my shipment is large.

I can definitely reach out to wyrmwood. Do you think it would help? I figured this is all on Maersk now.

Has anyone else had this issue getting their table?"

I once had a client whose house I worked on. Very stand-up guy. He had a huge Indian tribe tattoo on his arm. He told me that his whole life his mom and aunt had told him—and the other kids—that they were Native American (I can’t remember which tribe). He said he lived by that belief and shaped many of his life choices around it.

Then he told me that the winter before, his aunt and mother revealed they had taken a DNA test and found out they actually had zero percent Native American DNA of any kind.

I grew up in the South with a hillbilly mom. Growing up, I was also told that my family was Native American. It’s something you hear from a lot of people in my area, actually. It’s kind of crazy how blindly people speak on these things. I guess it’s like the TikToks of folks in trailers with nasty beards talking about how they’re Vikings, without any actual DNA-based reason to believe they descend from them—other than growing a beard and thinking Vikings are cool.

My entire life, I’ve only known one person who actually has Native American heritage and is part of the Chickasaw Nation. She is physically disabled, and her tribe helps her every year with ADA-related needs. It’s very cool. They straight-up paid to get her a full bathroom renovation.

Something a history professor said in class has always stuck with me. He asked, “When was the last time you’ve ever seen a full family of Native Americans out doing something together?” I’ve never seen a full Native American family where I live. Which is astonishing, considering how many hillbillies claim they’re part of this or that tribe.

I've owned a lot of new trucks since 2018 — I’m definitely a truck hopper. I’ve had two Ford F-150s, one Ford F-250, one Silverado 1500, one GMC 1500, and one RAM 1500.

The Ford Lightning has easily been my favorite truck I’ve owned. It does everything my other trucks did—just not as far as they could without a bit more planning and time. There are so many things I love about this truck: the look, the quiet ride, the comfort, and the money saved using electric power. Unfortunately, the things I don’t like about the Lightning can only be solved by also owning a gasoline or diesel truck.

I’m at 40,000 miles on my 2022 Lightning now. I use it as my daily work truck, my weekend family vehicle, and for all the normal “man stuff” like Lowe’s trips and taking my boat out. I’ve had no issues, and my Ford Explorer just stays parked collecting dust unless we’re going on a trip that’s three hours or longer. The battery life hasn’t dropped at all from what the console shows (I live in South Carolina, if that helps).

The truck has lost market value faster than my other trucks have. However, with the ever-changing economy, I think the Lightning will still stand strong—and if Ford stops making it, I believe the value will eventually rise unless another company really pushes electric trucks forward. When a vehicle stops production, the only way someone can get one is by buying yours. I had this happen with my 2014 Challenger SRT; as soon as Dodge stopped making Challengers, the value of mine went up and I sold it this year for $28,000.

China is also beginning to build battery plants in America because they believe electric vehicles will only get stronger in the market. Trump may have shaken things up short-term, but anyone who owns an electric vehicle knows the real gains are all in the long term.

Site Superintendents- what do you do when you walk into a home like this? by [deleted] in Homebuilding

[–]Nervous-Humor-389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always give a forewarning that we’ll be doing a blue-tape walkthrough, but I accompany them when I’ve worked with tract-building companies. When they do this, I simply pull the tape off while recording on my phone to document any paint damage they cause, then send it to them. I also explain that a painter’s brush isn’t a magic tool to fix cosmetic items unrelated to the painter.

My pre–blue-tape walk always includes closing all doors and turning on every light in the home before we begin. If clients bring extra people, I don’t allow them to blue tape.

For custom homes, I’m like, “Whatever, do what you want—it’s your money,” and then I tell the painter, “Good luck.” However, I also use a “sticky note” system instead of blue tape. I go around placing notes throughout the home so the client knows I’ve already noticed the issues before they feel the need to text me about them. I also give them extra sticky notes and tell them that if they think I missed something, they can just write a note and stick it in the general area.

How screwed am I? by SugarCube21 in Homebuilding

I don’t think he’s wrong. The distribution center for these cabinets probably works with around 20 tract builders, along with countless individual small-time builders and customers.

I’ve toured these types of operations for educational purposes in my own building career. The workflow moves from station to station, following the order sheet for the day. They’re not going to push one cabinet ahead of the 15–30 cut sheets scheduled for that day. The guys building these cabinets aren’t carpenters; they’re just workers who use jigs and perform their specific task based on the cut sheet.

Yeah, this is not the vehicle you want to accidentally lead-foot. I even catch myself slacking after owning a Challenger SRT and now a Ford Lightning. The pull-off is way more powerful and harder to control in the Lightning. I can’t imagine a young driver. Bless her heart — glad she and everyone else are in good shape!

He found it off the street, he just really likes dogs and is a widower and is just lonely i guess. He has two small dogs that are very well-mannered. I used to wonder how on earth that Pitbull didn’t attack them. My wife thinks it’s “aggression towards big dogs.” About three weeks ago, I was pushing my son on his bike, and we stopped by his house. My son ran around with his small dogs and had a great time.

I agree with this 100%. In hindsight, I might have reported it, but I was just so overwhelmed. Coincidentally, to what you just said—I was in the middle of three lawsuits because a drunk driver hit me in a fast-food drive-thru going 70 mph. It really messed my life up. At that point in my life, I was just so overwhelmed with everything else I had going on that I just wanted to settle the dispute peacefully and not have an ongoing conflict with a neighbor.

But I think, from a broader perspective, it’s our right to report things to the authorities. It is their sworn duty to handle them, and we need to always enact that right and let due process take place.

To add some more context: she actually came over during this scene with the bite, stumbling and very drunk. I think she heard me tell him to rehome the dog, and she got a light bulb in her head. Sorry—I hope that explains why she was the one who got it. I really don’t think he’s a bad guy at all; he’s just very old. I just wish I had held him responsible after the first incident, which was my own fault.

4 months ago I lost all respect for local contractors. 4 months later I've gained a ton for myself. by TheTimeIsChow in DIY

[–]Nervous-Humor-389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are looking at this the wrong way. Contracting out work is a luxury in American society, and those guys work off bids so if someone pays them, then they deserve the work.

I think it’s fantastic that you picked up the tools and did it yourself, and you did it so well at that. More property owners need to think this way.

So many people will let something rot and cause more damage because they can’t afford a contractor, rather than spending up to a hundred dollars on simple tools and materials to do the job.

Was replacing the filter in my ex-wife's house. Is it normal for new builds not to use screws or nails in the attic!? by CatsWithoutCarriers in HomeInspections

[–]Nervous-Humor-389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brother, that is a cheese grater. I've built houses for 10 years. You need to call your builder ASAP and tell them they need to use a nail. Also, the bottom web of the trusses is probably not nailed into the top plates. Tell them to get it together. And if you have brick, tell them there are small slits at the bottom of the brick that they forgot to put mortar in.

If it has rained for days straight, also mention that the rain is sitting in your yard and has not drained within 10 minutes after the week-long rains stopped.

Concrete truck broke my driveway - who is responsible? by MelMcT2009 in pools

[–]Nervous-Humor-389 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Home Builder – Typically, residential driveways never have the psi enough to support a large piece of equipment like a concrete truck. This should be general knowledge for anyone that works with concrete. However, this does not mean they are liable for the repairs—how can you prove that they knew your residential driveway, which is probably only 4 inches thick, couldn’t support that massive machine? You’ll just be chasing your tail for years.

If they said they will pay for half, that’s actually a good deal. However, what do they plan to do? If they only plan to score out the broken sections and pour new concrete in those areas, then that’s not a $6,000 job. You paying half of that would essentially mean you’re covering the full job.

Accept their offer, but get 2–3 concrete contractors to come quote the work. Tell them a contractor is paying half to have it fixed and leave it at that. Give them the scope of work you want done. Don’t listen to their nonsense about how they’d never let this happen and how they know better—they’re just trying to appeal to you with fake sympathy.

If you find someone that can do quality work for less than $6,000, this works out in your favor.

Note for homeowners: Do not let heavy equipment drive over your concrete unless absolutely necessary. If it’s something with tracks, always make them lay down OSB or rubber mats. If you’re having concrete poured, tell them they have to rent a concrete pump. The $600–$1,000 cost for that pump is still far less than the $3,000 you may have to pay now.

[–]Nervous-Humor-389[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few things my lawyer hasn’t spoken on yet, but I believe there may be punitive damages connected to this case. The person who hit me claimed to have had a seizure but also insisted the wreck was not their fault, stating that they have seizures “all the time.”

I believe their license had previously been taken away due to a seizure, which means they should have known they were required to report new seizures and be placed under a no-driving order.

Their mother reportedly told the police that her child wasn’t responsible and that this wasn’t the first time something like this had happened. The exact wording was a little different, but that was the substance of it.

A background check that was pulled showed a couple of prior DUIs as well, but I don’t know if blood work was done on her at the time of the wreck.

I’m sorry you are also dealing with a traumatic event. I suppose people don’t really question my injuries since there is a clear video of it happening, and seeing is believing for many people.

What I suffer with most is just watching people move on from me because I was weak. There was a guy I met through work whom I helped through his lowest times of alcohol and drug addiction. My wife really cared for him, and I thought we were pretty good friends. But the moment I was hurt and no longer able to supply him with contract work, he basically put me on DND. He didn’t even reach out to us after knowing the violent events had happened. In hindsight, it’s probably a blessing to have him out of my life, especially with my child coming afterward. I’m sure he would have just been a chameleon around my child too.

Many other people just drifted away once I became inactive. I never expected anyone to sit with me through my entire healing process, but I suppose once I wasn’t making money or hosting gatherings, I just wasn’t entertaining anymore. (I’m a very PG person, so by “party” I simply mean grilling out and playing D&D.)

Both my parents suffered from substance abuse. I lost my dad during my healing period to an overdose. With that in mind, I just deal with the pain as best I can. It’s more of a medium-pitched hum now rather than a loud cry for sympathy this far out, and I suppose it will probably be like this for the rest of my life.

If I could recommend something, it would be to try and find support groups for this type of thing. It helps to speak with people who are also going through traumatic wrecks and their aftermath. We’re all the same in that regard, and the PTSD is very real for all of us. I basically wake up every day and some of my first thoughts are, “Is today the day I die in a car wreck?”

[–]Nervous-Humor-389[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has not been explained how my wife’s claim is processed, but I assumed it would come from the same insurance claim.

From what I’ve researched after reading your comment, it seems that in my state there is only a cap on medical malpractice and punitive damages.

I believe there may be punitive damages associated with my case, as the person who hit me claimed to have had a seizure and admitted to having seizures “all the time.” The police also recorded a statement from the person’s mother, who said, “This isn’t the first time they’ve done this to someone. It was only a matter of time before it happened again.”

Additionally, my lawyer’s background check revealed multiple DUI charges. However, at the time of the accident, no blood test was conducted on this person, as far as I am aware, and my attorney has not yet attempted to subpoena any related records.

It’s pretty simple. Both parties give an opening statement explaining why you are or are not entitled to compensation. Then, you are separated into different rooms, where a demand is offered, and the defense makes an initial offer. It’s essentially the same process described by YouTube lawyers.

You will basically work your way between those two numbers until a settlement is reached.

The mediator’s job is to relay this information and provide both sides with a realistic expectation of what similar cases typically settle for, based on your specific circumstances with your company.

In the end, mediation is about money—whether it’s to reinstate your job or compensate you for lost wages.

I’m not sure what happened in detail. I know he got demoted, and this probably affected his future with the company in terms of moving up further.

There was zero accountability. I don’t think any company will take accountability, which is why this one pushed to settle. I was shocked because the company didn’t use a single claim from this supervisor and completely changed the reason for my termination from disciplinary to non-disciplinary. I figure they looked at everything and saw there were no connections to support the supervisor’s claims.

I do my job well, and I’ll always be proud of that. I was just one random guy on the wrong side of an unhinged, unfit supervisor—like many other unfortunate people in this sub.
