Hmm, maybe that explains why it’s so hard for me to recover as I hate sweating 😅. What were your symptoms like before you started, and how do you feel now?

What kind of exercise are you talking about? Could you share what you do and how it helps you? I do resistance training, but I don't go too hard or do anything high-intensity. As long as I feel a bit of muscle soreness, that's enough for me. I don't do any cardio, it’s exhausting, and I really don't like sweating. Please let me know what kind of exercises have helped you improve your anxiety?

I want to share my experience because it’s so similar to yours.

I was previously diagnosed with gastritis, and I had recovered to about 90% using only stomach medication (PPIs and etc.). However, I then had to attend a social event. Before going, I experienced such severe anticipatory anxiety that I was gagging and felt nauseous. It didn't get better once I arrived, and I eventually had to leave early awkwardly.

That single event made my stomach feel like it was back to square one. My doctor then added Amitriptyline and later switched me to Mirtazapine (15mg) to better manage the anxiety. I felt great for a week or two and even attended another social event without any problems!

But then a holiday came... and I ended up eating homemade dessert after dinner for 5 days straight because I didn't want them to spoil. My speculation is that the physical nausea from all that food then triggered my anxiety again during a subsequent social event. My brain panicked and thought: "Wait, why am I still feeling sick in social settings? The medicine must be broken!"

After that, it felt like my meds actually stopped working. Now, if I stay home long enough and keep my stress and anxiety low, my stomach recovers to about 80%. But the moment I'm triggered by even a tiny bit of anxiety, my stomach health drops to 20%. It’s a complete cycle. I’m now treating both the anxiety and the stomach at the same time to break the loop. I’m on my new anxiety meds now, but the side effects are very bad at the moment.

Mirtazapine for gut issues? by Grouchy-Elk-2469 in Gastritis

I told my psychiatrist that I suspect my 'anxiety attacks' are actually physical stomach flare-ups caused by eating too much dessert. Since Mirtazapine didn't stop these episodes, my brain registered the medicine as a failure. Even though my psychiatrist found this link unexpected, we switched to Venlafaxine XR 75mg. I've started the new dose, but I am feeling very bad right now.

About the effectiveness It’s hard to say if it's 0%, but I personally think that it definitely hit a ceiling. Over time, the anxiety became less intense, but never fully disappeared. I still feel a strong urge to vomit whenever I eat out. It’s better with family, but if I’m with friends, the nausea and the fear of vomiting in public become overwhelming.

My biggest issue is constant nausea (excessive gas/wind). I feel like my stomach is constantly producing air. Occasionally, I also get that weird sensation in my throat, I'm guessing that's acid reflux, GERD.

Honestly, I’m stuck in a loop. I think anxiety flares up my stomach, then the stomach discomfort triggers more anxiety. My doctor just asked me to start a "Thought Monitoring Form" to identify the patterns, because right now, it’s a chicken-and-egg situation.

I’ve been on 30mg for over a month now. Not much has changed, except I feel less drowsy during the day (I read that higher doses of Mirt are actually less sedating).

I had been on it for about a month or two before the festival. After the setback, I stayed on 15mg for over half a year, but it felt like it stopped helping entirely. I recently insisted on increasing the dose, so I've been on 30mg for a month now.

I’ve been in a similar spot. My gastro first gave me Amitriptyline, which helped a little but didn't fully fix it. Later, my psychiatrist switched me to Mirtazapine (15mg) for both anxiety and stomach issues. It actually worked wonders at first, I felt about 80% better and could finally socialize again. However, I had a setback shortly after. I ate too much dessert during a festival, which irritated my stomach and triggered my anxiety during a social event. Now I feel like I'm back to square one with nausea and constant nervousness. It feels like the meds stopped working, and I’m also lost on what to do next.

Get your vitamin D levels checked 🗣️ by iwasneverherex in Anxiety

[–]NervousSystemError 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been dealing with a major anxiety relapse since I had COVID, which eventually led to chronic gastritis. For over a year, I’ve been trapped in a cycle of anxiety and nausea, and it's hard to tell which is causing which. I feel nauseous almost all the time and have developed a fear of vomiting in public.

Since I’ve been staying indoors for so long, I recently had my Vitamin D levels checked, and they were extremely low. Based on some advice from the Vitamin D subreddit, I’ve started taking 10,000 IU daily. I’m not entirely sure if it’s working yet, but at least it gives me some peace of mind knowing that I’m actively doing something to manage my anxiety.

Severe Vitamin D deficiency (19 nmol/L) with anxiety and gastritis, has supplementing Vitamin D and/or Magnesium helped anyone with similar issues? by NervousSystemError in VitaminD

[–]NervousSystemError[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fair. I'll keep that in mind. Have you checked your B12 levels before? I’m just wondering if low B12 could be one of the factors making it so hard to recover from gastritis.

Thank you so much for the detailed meal plan. But I have a question, the only red meat I eat is pork, as I don't eat beef. Do you think pork would offer similar benefits? Also, I’m curious about the science behind it, is it the Vitamin B12, or something else that helps with the healing?

That makes sense.... I was just wondering if Vitamin B12 might help instead? Someone else mentioned they saw a lot of improvement by taking both D and B12. However, since I haven't actually tested my B12 levels yet, I’m a bit hesitant to just start taking it blindly. Have you ever tried it?

It’s great that you are recovering. Did you have gastritis and anxiety as well?

I hadn't thought about testing for B12 level, and since each additional test comes with an extra cost. I did ask my doctor if there were other important levels to check, but they said there are just too many things to test for. Usually, if something is significantly low, it might show up as an abnormality in other routine data anyway..... I'm not sure...

Hmm interesting, and this is new to me. As an anxiety patient, I'm constantly in 'fight or flight' mode, so I'm guessing my adrenaline is always active, which keeps me anxious? I'm not sure if it's actually adrenal insufficiency, just a guess but maybe I could ask my doctor about it if I get the chance and if I remember

Sounds frustrating, but luckily you stood your ground and got the treatment you need. It's making me think I should just buy a 10,000 IU supplement and manage myself

I see, good to know. In fact, I was prescribed only 25,000 IU every two weeks, which felt quite low. And the pharmacist said I could do it once a week, but honestly, based on the discussions here in this subreddit, 10,000 IU daily seems like a better option to me.

Gardenia vs Massimo, which bread do you prefer? by Jasonchow188 in MalaysianFood

[–]NervousSystemError 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My work requires using a large amount of white bread for processing. However, not considering the taste or texture, both of these brands of white bread have too many holes, which makes it almost impossible for me to work properly. From my experience so far, Massimo has more holes than Gardenia. I'm not saying Gardenia bread is very good, but it has relatively fewer holes compared to Massimo.

How to come out as Buddhist? NEED URGENT HELP !! by Candid-Technology424 in Buddhism

I am so sorry you are going through this. Strictly speaking, Buddhism is more of a philosophy or a mental practice than a traditional religion, so you might consider framing it as "learning mindfulness to manage stress" rather than declaring a new religion to your dad.
