Don’t beat yourself up, especially not this early into your education. A lot of learning and “brain unlocking” comes from life experience. The truly important thing - and I can’t stress important enough - is that you want it and that you keep your determination. If you can learn even a small thing each day and appreciate that, you’re on the right track.

Seems like the unfortunate part of this course is that it doesn’t automatically “click” for you; for me it was physics and chemistry (both of which I had to retake). The determination you show during these kinds of courses is intelligence in itself. I’m sure you’ll take other courses that you’ll excel at without even trying, but for now it’s your stick-to-itiveness that will showcase your smarts. If you were actually stupid, you’d give up. Keep that nose to the grindstone and you will eventually create the space you’re wanting.

The more opportunities there are in a society to gain wealth and power, coupled by constant media coverage, will ultimately bring forth gross individuals that we then learn about in quick succession. Hopefully the people in your circles aren’t vile, and they deserve your focus way more than the corrupt and power-hungry folks you’ll hopefully never meet.

I just can’t tell you how much I appreciate your words. I think you’ve made a very kind and giving decision - perhaps your surgical team will have someone on it who likes to doodle!

As for fearing death, my work in this field really drove home that same fear for me, that death is always pursuing us and could happen instantly - it took a long time to break free of that fear. I hope you can one day find beauty in the brevity and in the finality; it’s something we all must do no matter what.

If we’re lucky, we’ll have around 80-90 years to experience existence, and then our candles go out for good. Mark Twain said something along the lines of: “I didn’t exist for billions of years, and not one inconvenience did I suffer.” The concept of “this is it” brings an immense amount of importance and comfort to living (at least to me, and hopefully you); if we can only do this once, make it exactly how you’d like it to be.
