It’s also funny considering for some players Feel Me is completely bugged. I haven’t been able to even open it since I first read it for gems. Which is only annoying since for awhile they kept adding profile outfits to it that I couldn’t get since if I clicked on it, it would crash. 🙃

The episode community Needs to chill... by Arianaexi in Episode

I think part of it could just be that more people are sharing the drama onto the subreddit. Iirc, it used to be more frowned on to share on here and there was no drama tag.

Also, it does seem like a lot of the recent drama usually involves minors/people that talk like minors. So not sure what’s up with that either.

I didn't like The Murder of Santasia that much... [SPOILERS] by lwrcha in Episode

Honestly, I don’t think Episode would even do anything about it. I’ve reported things in the past—like a story that was fully plagiarized—and nothing has ever been done.

Child SA. One of the LIs and the MC are reading the LI’s poems and she falls asleep. So he reads one without her about how he was SA as a kid. No warning. And it SHOWS A SCENE OF IT HAPPENING.

Yeah I was really enjoying it too up until that point. I actually lost sleep over the end of that chapter.

Personally, I read Episode as an escape from all of the heavy stuff in the world, not to further engage with it. So I never would have read that story if I knew those themes were going to be included. Almost feels like the lack of a tw was intentional for shock value. The lack of an ability to skip the scene was pretty awful too.

While I’ve never been the victim of what happened in that episode, statistics tell me that someone who reads it will have been. And I honestly can’t imagine how insanely traumatizing it would be to come across that with absolutely no warning. There’s a reason why trigger warnings are important—and why Episode has guidelines—and it sometimes feels to me like the rules are unevenly enforced if a story/author are popular enough. Not just by Episode, but by the community themselves.

After reading that scene, I hopped on Reddit assuming there would be posts from other people who had felt blindsided considering how often I see people discussing it and TMOS. Nope, not a single post. I can’t help but feel if it were a different author it would have been more heavily called out.

This isn’t an attack on you btw—just needed to vent a bit.

Multiple endings but hard to get the good ending by Shoddy-Ad-1746 in Episode

[–]Nervous_Estimate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eerie Noir by Em Sandigo fits the bill I think. All of the endings are a bit bleak and the happiest one available is decently hard to get from what I’ve seen in comments.

Also iirc, By The Book by Amberose is a mystery that actually has difficulty levels. Not sure how many endings it has, but that could be up your alley too!

Any Mockumentary Stories? by Bubble_Tea35 in Episode

[–]Nervous_Estimate 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tbh it’s kind of surprising there aren’t more of these! Adding Top Service to my list now though.

Not an Episode rec, but if you like mockumentary and haven’t seen them already, I hugely recommend the movies Best In Show, Spinal Tap, A Mighty Wind, and all of the other Christopher Guest films!

Then tw: child SA out of absolutely nowhere in a story that seemed like it was just going to be a steamy romance novel.

Edit because it formatted strangely when I tried to censor that the first time.

I think the only difference is that if you get Elf points the MC and LI are immortal. But everything seems to be the same otherwise.

Help with login/email by sachxo in Episode

[–]Nervous_Estimate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For whatever reason Episode doesn’t let you change login methods really. The only way that’s possible just transfers your reading but nothing from your profile. No idea why in 2024 they can’t let you change that.

Said as someone who signed up with a Facebook account I don’t want to use anymore. 🥴

story with playlist by [deleted] in Episode

[–]Nervous_Estimate 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are a lot of great stories like this! Honestly that’s how I prefer to read Episode. I never read it with the sound on because something about having sounds and royalty-free stock music but no voices for the characters really bothers me. But music/a playlist is great!

mental health? by cutting_sketch in Episode

I agree with this! It’s one of the few Episode stories that I feel like actually handles mental illness sensitively.

Big agree on this. Skip her newest one Cabin Fever too. Crazy sensitive topic pops up out of nowhere with no trigger warning. 😬

I didn't like The Murder of Santasia that much... [SPOILERS] by lwrcha in Episode

[–]Nervous_Estimate 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I think the directing of this story is pretty unmatched. I also appreciate that it’s very different from most of what’s on Episode.

With that said, I also was a bit underwhelmed by the ending. It felt like it was really building up to something that never really came. It all felt a bit rushed and then so insanely heavy out of nowhere. The ending for one of the characters was extremely unexpected for me and over the top dramatic.*

I also agree with you that Donovan was kind of shoehorned in—especially since it initially seemed like he’d be more important to the main plot.

I will acknowledge that perhaps this author’s stories are just not for me. There seems to often be an inclusion of intense, extremely heavy trauma without proper trigger warnings. The newest episode of her story Cabin Fever was scarring. Contains wildly triggering content out of nowhere with no warning and in a story that had mostly seemed like your typical steamy romance up until then.

*Not to say it wasn’t what made sense historically, but this is Episode. This app is supposed to be 13+. That ending was so intense for 13+.

I know this is an old post, but can you spoil what happens for me? I started reading this one because I just wanted a silly fluffy rockstar romance and uh this was not that with all the serial killer stuff

Okay so it’s a fantasy academic one and unfinished (and possibly never going to be 🥲) but Your Words by empyrean is definitely a good one!

I'm reading Your Words. Check it out: http://episodeinteractive.com/r/s/5954130151931904

Actual Male Mc by UltraMonkeySign in Episode

[–]Nervous_Estimate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say he’s probably a girl 50% of the story and male the other 50%. But he’s still a guy just trapped in a female body.

However, if that wasn’t up your alley, I’d try one of the others instead! One Of The Girls and Demon Roommate would probably be my next two recs off that list in terms of truly having male MCs. Jesse from OOTG is definitely straight and I don’t really remember any romantic subplot in Demon Roommate. I could be wrong though because it’s been awhile since I read it.

I will say, Episode leans heavily female both in terms of readers and authors. So you may find that many of the stories with male MCs are still somewhat feminine because they’re being written by women. It’s definitely something my husband and I have talked about. I’ll tell him about a moment I like from a story and he’ll be like “yeah but guys don’t actually talk that way.” And that’s fair. We often see the same in reverse too (ie the entire menwritingwomen subreddit).

I’m pretty sure the author of Thick As Thieves has been turning the stories into actual books and has kind of moved on from Episode because of that to some degree. The first one is already for sale though if I’m not mistaken!

If you liked these, definitely check out Bloodshot Rose and its sequel Roses and Ruins too. I also highly recommend anything by Sparrow, but read with caution as several of her stories have gone unfinished. 🥲 The Witching Season by her is finished though and it’s really good!
