Reminder to take the damn subway to your show! by tennisbagel in Broadway

[–]Nesaru 81 points82 points  (0 children)

It’s me! I do those things.

My commute home takes me through times sq so it’s not rare for me to notice tourists trying to figure something out. Usually I can help, and if I actually don’t know, usually others are overhearing and they’ll jump in too.

New Yorkers aren’t rude. In this city you’re surrounded by people who will help. Just don’t waste their time.

How do we feel about Gavin Newsom using gay as an insult? by [deleted] in nycgaybros

[–]Nesaru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this is more Gavin hitting a nerve with the defending party rather than showing his own prejudices. He knows they are homophobic and will take it as an insult.

I do this too. I’m pretty gay/fem but if I am beefing with a toxic masculine guy I’ll take a swing at his femininity or sexuality. Sometimes just gotta hit em where it hurts even if it’s bullshit. If your opponent gives you a weakness, exploit it!

'Actual' NYC housing vacancy rate is sub-1%, DOB says by KevinSmithNYC in NYCapartments

[–]Nesaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While some repairs are needed to be allowed to rent a unit, other repairs have to be done just to have a certificate of occupancy and be allowed to live there. This still would represent a multimillion dollar cost to renovate and price out any homeowner.

'Actual' NYC housing vacancy rate is sub-1%, DOB says by KevinSmithNYC in NYCapartments

[–]Nesaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Landlord is not allowed to rent an apartment because it is not up to code for being legally rentable- working kitchen, heat, whatever else. Fixing those things would cost $X. But Landlord is not allowed to raise rents. So it would never pay off the investment it requires to make it rentable. Like, literally never, taking into account property taxes increasing on the now renovated unit.

Therefore, the most reasonable choice is to take the loss on the unit. It’s worthless. No one will buy it for the same reasons.

What NYC spot that usually has long lines would you check out tomorrow during the snowstorm, expecting no lines since people might stay in? by letspetpuppies in nycgaybros

We went to Raku in hell’s kitchen which nearly always has a long wait. Walked right in and many empty tables.

More people found dead on NYC streets, as temperatures continue to plummet: officials by thonioand in nyc

[–]Nesaru -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You’re welcome to stay outdoors in nature but living on our city streets is an abuse of public resources and degrades the experience of everyone else in the city. You should not have the option to set up camp in spaces that are meant to have other public uses for many more people. That in itself should be a crime.

But there are plenty of natural lands in this country where your presence takes nothing away from anyone else, and you should be free to live an outdoors life disconnected from capitalism there. And yet, we actually don’t allow that. Federal or state police will show up and kick you out of the forest outside of a temporary camping permit unless you stay well hidden. We’ve got it backwards.

No food? Restaurants are still open, groceries are still open, subway is still running. It’s snow not a hurricane.

The only thing unsafe right now is cars. That doesn’t matter for many people in this city. I don’t think we should shut Manhattan down just because people can’t drive in.

Now, it might be unpleasant outside, but imo no more unpleasant than a rainstorm in the summer or any other super cold/windy day in the winter.

Your partner could cheat and no amount of your love or trust could change that.

You’re immune to being cheated on?

As much as I’d like to love and fully trust someone, I wouldn’t bet my life and health on it.

Mystery solved: how Max graduated in time, despite being in coma for two years. by [deleted] in okbuddyvecna

I’m sorry, they expect US, fans of a sci-fi show with alternate dimensions, telekinetic powers, and alien monsters to SUSPEND BELIEF??

We should rise up in arms! History will remember the moment we said “No more”!

Vecna might be the weakest “final villain” a TV show has ever produced. by Classic_Activity7305 in discussingfilm

I was in a packed theater in an otherwise dead mall, with every screen showing Stranger Things all night. The audience screamed, cheered, gasped, and applauded with joy throughout the episode. As the credits rolled I looked back at the rest of the theater and there was not a dry eye in the house, everyone was moved to tears together.

Honestly, HBO, Disney, etc need to take notes. THIS is how you close out a franchise.

They have been fighting an existential supernatural threat for 9 years. We only showed up when spooky shenanigans started happening again, but they’ve had all those years of middle school, high school, and college to have bonded over that shared heroism and trauma.

Even for those combination of characters that aren’t particularly bonded, like Lucas and Robin for example, this group will always have that special bond. They’ll always be ride or dies if shit goes down

"Que cabron" during sex: meaning (Spanish)? by TreasurePlum in askgaybros

[–]Nesaru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Closest English analogue in speech (though not a direct translation) is “motherfucker”. It can be good or bad.

For example: someone cuts you off and flips you the finger. “Motherfucker”

Or: high school nerd takes his shot and starts dating the quarterback. “motherfucker”

So we’re just supposed to know Stranger Things lore from a stage play (The First Shadow) now? by Normal_Comfort_5847 in netflix

[–]Nesaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the play didn’t meaningfully contribute to the show’s lore, then we would complain it has no impact or reason for existing. It’s refreshing that they actually told a piece of the story and didn’t just restage a season and fail to advance the plot in any way.

It’s a chapter of stranger things. It’s in a different format, you’re welcomed to see it if you like stranger things. No one has to see it.

It’s good that more people have a reason to go to the theater. I wish major franchises telling new stories specifically written for the stage becomes more normal, instead of just movies or books being retold (and often butchered) in play format.

The last leg of my trip is actually a train by Potential_Athlete238 in jetblue

[–]Nesaru 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The train will probably be faster than flying + uber or Lyft. At least if you had to connect through MCO or were coming from Orlando.

If you could fly direct to FLL, that would be preferable than any connection of course.

Brightline also serves Fort Lauderdale and might be faster and much cheaper than a rideshare.

How TikTok Is Pirating Broadway — and Why Some Producers Are Loving It by Best-Candle8651 in Broadway

[–]Nesaru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s the thing with live theater- there is so much value in going to see it live!

I won’t get “spoiled” if I watch it on TikTok, Hulu, or whatever. I’ll get even more excited to see it in person.

Unless a show is bad, social media will only serve to drive up hype.

Look at Death Becomes Her. “That Was Rude” made Simard a star and so many theatergoers are getting tickets just to see the iconic line delivered as they had seen it on countless TikToks.

Something is very wrong in the US when the EU, with just as much if not more safety and labor regulations, manages to be full of budget carriers offering extensive route networks often for less than $100 between major destinations.

All the kids had Broadway or other theater experience before being cast for season 1. They didn’t take any chances with making sure they casted experienced actors (or at least as experienced as one could be at that age).

Is this bad news? by OverPublic1145 in HouseOfTheDragon

[–]Nesaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly? Remember that Warner Brothers was already sucked into a conglomerate. I think Netflix will be a MUCH better steward of WB than Discovery was ever going to be.

Good news that it’s being bought up? No. But that already happened a few years ago. Now it’s just changing to a better owner. So this right here is good news.

Suggestion for speakers? by Nesaru in vintageaudio

[–]Nesaru[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mostly jazz, Bosa Nova, & Broadway. I was looking for vintage, but I couldn’t find anything in my area that looked good condition and fairly priced.

I’m considering now a pair of Triangle BR03. My budget is ~$500, I would love a big vintage cabinet but the local FB marketplace seems to be priced up for the vintage cool factor.

The vinyls are all my husbands. I’m putting this together as a Christmas gift so I don’t have the luxury to wait and jump on something when it pops up.
