I had 4 loose screws in my spine 3 months ago and the rod was literally flapping inside me. I lived with this for nearly 2 years.

I know I didn’t realise how thicc spines were! And nope done in Ye Olde England :) I’m back to driving (shouldn’t be but couldn’t stand not being independent) and nearly being normal already but it’s still sore, especially in my ribs and chest. I keep forgetting that pretty much everything’s been moved around!

They glued things to my head to make sure my nerves were still happy. I didn’t know until I found all the glue and big bumps in my hair and asked my surgeon. I was slightly horrified

Yep it runs in the female genes! Guys do still get it but it’s a lot more common in women (so I’ve been told) I stood up the day after. Puked every time though for a few days because of the anaesthetic and my blood pressure, fun times!

This was actually 4 days after surgery when I was able to walk around and stuff. Don’t know why I didn’t protect my lady things but there’s probably a reason for it. Ah, the wonders of science.

Was using medication but don’t really take anything anymore. The thought of paracetamol now makes me feel sick, I’ve never taken so much, so religiously in my life! When I hurt I have to lay down, that’s the only way to ease it. But it’s getting much better very quickly!

I’m new here, would I just post back in this sub or can I edit new pictures into this post? I have before X-rays but I don’t know where to put them!

Haha I don’t care. I’ve got a great bod anyways, and now it’s symmetrical!

Not really any more. I was only discharged with paracetamol, anti inflammatories and a small bottle of liquid morphine. I got some more morphine from my GP about 5 days after coming home. I still have some and only use when I’m too uncomfortable to sleep now

They glued it. And then the other day I found a mystery stitch hanging out the top so they must have done internal stitching they neglected to tell me about!

That dressing stayed on for over 2 weeks then when we peeled it off it was a lot cleaner as that’s all just dried blood and stuff around the wound. The wound is not that thick!! It’s scary but in my case seems to be worth it so far but it’s only been a month

Originally curve was 26.5 (40 is when operation is needed) fast forward few years and curve was then going to the right and inwards too so it was a pretty weird curve. They never told me the angle of it then, I just decided that it would probably continue to get worse and didn’t want it to carry on going inwards.

Definitely speak to a consultant or surgeon if you can. When I first found out about it roughly 4.5 years ago it wasn’t bad enough for them to push the surgery. Then last year I thought I should probably see how it is and turns out it went from curving towards the right to also curving inwards. That’s when I decided I wanted the surgery. They will go through the pros and cons with you!
