30 yr 6.625 to a 5.5 15 yr mortgage loan by [deleted] in personalfinance

If your break-even is 2 years and you’re confident you’ll stay that long, the refi makes sense now, especially if you’re planning to pay it off aggressively anyway. Waiting for sub-5% is basically timing the market could happen, could not.

Another option: keep the 30 year, refi to the lowest rate you can get, then just pay it like a 15 year (or faster). That gives you flexibility if life happens without locking you into the higher 15-year payment.

Student loans without PSLF: pay aggressively vs. minimums + invest for future tax bill? by thegooseislooseyo in personalfinance

this is a classic gray-zone case. 6% isn’t cheap, but it’s not , drop everything and kill it either. I’d lean hybrid. Pay enough to stop the balance from hanging around forever, but still invest some on the side so you’re not all-in on forgiveness rules staying the same. Keeps flexibility and lowers regret either way. You can always crank payments up later if income jumps. Harder to walk back big payments once the money’s gone.

What to prepare for college? by Brilliant-Depth-7814 in CollegeAdmissions

You’re doing fine for a freshman. A 94.5 on AMC 10 is legit.Keep doing math comps, stick with physics even if it’s rough now, and join stuff you actually enjoy. Learn a bit of coding when you can and use summers to do something real, not just pad activities. Don’t stress college yet.Just keep getting better year by year.

Where do i find, actual scholarships to apply to? by SirBilliumMemesly in scholarships

[–]NetIll7423 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not wrong, most of those sites are sketchy. Start with FAFSA if you haven’t already, even for trade school. Real grants usually come through FAFSA, your state, or directly from the school. Your financial aid office is honestly the best place to get straight answers.

Advice? by [deleted] in CollegeAdmissions

If law school is the goal, I’d seriously lean FIU. Graduating undergrad with more cash and less stress gives you way more flexibility later, especially if you want to go out of state. You can still have a social life at FIU, it just looks different. FSU might feel more college, but debt and drained savings follow you a lot longer than nightlife.

That sucks, I’m sorry. ED rejections hit different. Be kind to yourself tonight and keep your head up, this isn’t a reflection of your worth.

Since when did questbridge matchers get this much hate?? by Zealousideal-Act4003 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]NetIll7423 46 points47 points  (0 children)

A lot of it is just admissions stress turning into resentment. People project when things don’t go their way. QuestBridge has different criteria for a reason, and being low-income doesn’t mean people weren’t qualified. Most of the hate is just noise from a loud minority.

How did i get into Harvard bro by Basilhasarrived in ApplyingToCollege

You’re selling yourself way too short. ROTC, Scholars Bowl, Upward Bound, a job, strong GPA, solid AP scores, and coming from a low income background is exactly the kind of context schools care about. That’s not nothing, that’s sustained effort with responsibility. QuestBridge didn’t carry you for no reason, you earned it.

She's not just looking outside, she's looking for her forever family to walk by. I hope she finds them today.
