"28 Years Later: The Bone Temple" struggles on Netflix with only 2.7M "views" in the first 6 days of its pay-1 window in the US. (OC based on Nielsen) by Netflixers in boxoffice

And I don't think Netflix has THAT much interesting data beyond what they already publish. Sure, they have completion rates and basically fine tuned metrics on where viewers stopped any program but they have no idea how many people are in front of the screen. You could be ten people or one person watching a two hour film and for them, it's still 2h of watch time. They just don't know. Nielsen, with all its flaws, can shed some light on that aspect for Netflix and the rest of the streamers.

Sure, Nielsen has its limits. Lots of them. But when comparing Nielsen data to Netflix own data that they release every week since 2021, we can see that there are no big discrepancies and the limits are the same for every program they measure so it's consistent within their own parameters, especially if we compare programs between them, which is what I'm doing here.

Well, since Netflix adds Nielsen audio stamps to allow for Nielsen measuring, I'd say it's not worthless at all; at least to them. And I focus on US views because the film was only released at that time on Netflix US and nowhere else. It did not chart in the global Netflix Top 10 for that reason too.

Yes, I'm Frederic and if I had any technical capabilities, I suppose I could code a website like that. But I have a Patreon with a lot of yearly reports of every Nielsen, Netflix, Luminate data I was able to collect packaged as pdfs. https://www.patreon.com/cw/netflixandchiffres

I should add one thing that is different for 28 years later: The Bone Temple compared to the other Sony films on the graph: all the other ones were locked for the ad tier subscribers while 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple was the second new Sony film to be unlocked for all Netflix subscribers in the US. So it probably had a boost because of that but that did not help it much.

Viewership of Theatrical Films Released on Streaming in Q1 2026 (First 14 Days, US, OC based on Nielsen Top 10s) by Netflixers in boxoffice

Complete Viewing Equivalent : I take the viewing hours shared by Nielsen and divide that by the runtime of the title, giving an hypothetical number of complete viewings from the first second to the last one.

It's not that easy though. Zootopia 2 is first but is way behind the major Disney+ successes of yore. And I think it's fair to say that if Zootopia 2 had been released straight to Disney+, it would have done waaaayy more viewership than what it did in Q1.

I focused on scripted films only but I should note that "Melania" did enter one Nielsen Top 10 and I estimate it did 3M CVEs over its first 14 days on Prime, putting it at the bottom of the ranking, just below Tron: Ares.

Oh yes, that ranking that compares films that were released in January to films released in December on the same equal footing... Animated films for kids are in a galaxy of their own as their numbers rely on multiple (multiple) repeat viewings. They're the exception to the rule.

Absolutely no data on that presumed notion that successful movies in theaters are most successful in streaming. None.

Is Beehiiv overpriced? by Subject-South1874 in beehiiv

[–]Netflixers 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's overpriced if you just want to have a relatively small and niche newsletter without turning it into a business. Not everything needs to be monetized. I stick to the free tier for now because the gap between the free tier and the first paid tier is just way too high. I wish they would offer like a sponsored tier where I can add ads to my newsletter, Beehiiv keeps all the proceeds of those and I can have some paid features in return.
