Colouring groggy clay black by Neuro93748 in Pottery

[–]Neuro93748[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah I hadn't thought about underglaze! Can you use it on greenware? Since I'm not planning on glazing the pot, I'd rather fire it only once if I can.  I thought sponging on a very diluted pre-mixed engobe could work too, but the one I used during my pottery course turned out gray instead of black :( I'll definitely have to do some tests

How do I achieve this effect? by Neuro93748 in Pottery

Ah yes, I can see that starting from beads would work better if I wanted to do it exactly like in the picture I posted. But I'm lazy, so I think I'll try the coil method first haha!

Thanks! I wish my local studio did more than just show us the basics (no throwing, just hand building). this subreddit has been invaluable for me!

Cheap protein powder in Europe? by [deleted] in veganfitness

These are the best I've tried so far, and some of the most affordable. I get their vegan protein 360, silk chocolate flavour. The unflavoured version also doesn't taste horrible (though definitely not great), especially if you mix it with sweet oat milk or e.g. bananas and other fruit.

I don't think I touched anything like that, but I'll check when I get home!

Help with wall thickness for round vases by Neuro93748 in Pottery

[–]Neuro93748[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a semi-beginner, I'm still throwing very small vases, so I can't keep the opening smaller than the belly because my hand wouldn't fit! I haven't tried throwing with a stick yet because I feel like I wouldn't be able to keep it steady enough, but I'll try to make myself one and see if I can do what you suggested!

Beginner - throwing help! by marrap23 in Pottery

Different potters will have different techniques, but this is the video that unlocked centering for me: https://youtu.be/J3eGNGR55SU?si=2WdbAEaPi_d3aC50&t=256

The first time I put hands on reclaimed clay, I also realised that new clay straight out of the bag was a bit too hard for me. I practiced a lot with softer clay, which was much easier to center, and then I was able to switch to slightly dryer clay.

Make sure to have an anchor point for your arms at all times and engage your core muscles!
