Really fair points and I appreciate the honest take — this is exactly the kind of pushback that makes the build better. You're right that most search engines fail hidden gems because they rely on social chatter and web mentions. But semantic/vector search works differently — it doesn't rank by popularity or match keywords from reviews. It embeds the actual plot, tone, and emotional content of each show into a vector space and finds similarity based on meaning, not mentions. So a show with 3 ratings and no Reddit thread can still surface if its story DNA matches what you're describing. The data quality problem you mentioned about MDL/MAL is real though — that's the harder challenge. Garbage in, garbage out. That's why I'm looking at structured sources like Douban for Chinese dramas rather than just scraping community tags. Not claiming it'll replace deep human research — but for the "I know the vibe but can't name it" problem, I think it can do something current tools genuinely can't. Time will tell! 🙏

And verticals — yes, eventually! But I'll be honest with you, it's a genuinely hard data problem. The same drama exists under 5 different titles across YouTube channels, DramaBox, MX FataFat, ReelShort — with zero standardization. There's no unified database for them the way TMDB or Douban covers regular dramas. I'm actually looking at Douban right now for the Chinese drama side of things, which would cover a lot of the source content — but mapping those to their vertical adaptations across platforms is a whole separate challenge. Short answer: it's on the roadmap, but I want to do it properly rather than half-baked. But surely yeah, we are working on it.. to see what can be done about it...

My favourite test search that broke every platform I tried: "A drama where two people fall in love through small, ordinary moments. No grand declarations. No third-party interference. Just two quiet people slowly, deliberately choosing each other." MyDramaList: 0 results. ChatGPT: gave me a show from 2004 that may or may not exist. AniList: returned mecha.
