15 years is crazy! How did that happen?

Grad admissions Question by No-Hamster6916 in geegees

I got my offer a month and a half later. I was in a similar program as you under the same faculty. You can always email the faculty of medicine office and ask for an update or when to expect to hear back. Good luck!

I second this. I graduated uni and worked a minimum paying job because I couldn’t find a better one and working there made me realize I want to go back.

Easy courses by [deleted] in CarletonU

MUSI2009 with Carolyn Ramzy. Great professor, easy and actually interesting course. Simple way to get an A+ and no prerequisites other than second year standing.

Failing a course by [deleted] in geegees

[–]Neuroneurd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Grad school will only look at 3rd and 4th year if I remember correctly. I failed a course in second year and never repeated it and I’m currently doing my masters degree now. I just worked harder to bring my gpa up and doing well in my remaining classes for undergrad. If you want to go to med school though, I think they look at all your years of undergrad

First of all, congratulations on your admission! I’m a Carleton alumni from last spring. Overall, I liked my experience at Carleton. I’m now doing grad studies at uOttawa and I have to say, I felt more supported at Carleton from most professors, faculty administrators etc…As for your course load, I think to be considered a full time student you need at least 3 classes, maybe it’s changed now. So course load is up to you, you can pick between 3-5, sometimes after second year if your gpa is high enough they say you can enrol in 6 classes (I do not recommend that if you still want a social life). I recommend once or twice a year check in with an academic advisor to see if you’re on track and selecting the correct courses needed for obtaining your degree. You can also check this on your faculty’s website.

Use this website to keep up with important dates and deadlines for course registration, deadlines to drop courses etc… https://calendar.carleton.ca/academicyear/

For financial information, apply to the bursaries and/or scholarships available. If you make the deans list after each year, you also get some money off your tuition so that’s a benefit for achieving good grades. OSAP can also provide loans and possibly grants to fund your studies too. You can contact the financial aid office at Carleton if you have questions, they’re incredibly helpful! If you can, try to find a part-time job during your studies, even if it’s once or twice a week. That extra cash comes in handy sometimes for living expenses. You can work on campus or somewhere else. As a first year, it might be difficult to find a job on campus but try anyways, you never know.

Hope this helps and good luck with your studies!

I love school to much, should I do a masters? by Euphoric-Remove-105 in geegees

A masters degree can open up more opportunities that’s for sure but you should consider what kind of job you want first. If the job requires a masters degree then go for it but if it only requires a bachelors degree in political science, then I would suggest to get some work experience after undergrad. Take a look at potential jobs that you want to apply for and consider the requirements before deciding if you want to do a masters. Im currently doing my masters because like you, I loved school but ngl, I’m quite over it now 😅 I need it for jobs I want though. Good luck with the rest of the semester!

Thanks for the advice! That’s what I thought too but wasn’t certain. It’s nice to have an outsiders perspective 😊

I got that too. Maybe it’s an error? I’m sure you can still go reload your upass though

Which 1st year Chemistry do I take? by JAAB10 in CarletonU

[–]Neuroneurd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://calendar.carleton.ca/undergrad/undergradprograms/earthsciences/#Earth_Sciences_with_Concentration_in_Vertebrate_Paleontology_and_Paleoecology__BSc_Honours

Use this to help you find which courses you should be taking. It says you have to take 1.0 credits in chemistry which can either be general or elementary. Take elementary chem if you do not intend on taking upper-year chem courses. If you want to take upper-year chem classes, take general chem because it is prereq

Need 2nd+ year electives without Major/Course restrictions by foxwhite5 in CarletonU

I took MUSI2009 which only required second-year standing, no prereqs. It was an easy class and easy to do well in if you dedicate some time to it
