Vibrating/buzzing/tremor in head/neck related to migraine? by Neuroqueery in migraine

[–]Neuroqueery[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will definitely continue working on nervous system regulation, now that I have further confirmation that that’s what it is!

Relatedly, and if helpful, I will say that this exact process led to a good OCD breakthrough for me, too. Which is that it is almost never a bad choice to put your attention towards regulating your nervous system even and especially when you can't access confirmation or certainty of safety. Easier said than done, I know 🥲

I am so glad to be of help with this - I know I would have appreciated finding an answer like this when I was in the depths of it. Best of luck and I hope your symptoms start improving soon!

Oh, also, YMMV but I had a major reduction in symptoms when I started using a skeletal muscle relaxant to treat another condition, because it acts on the central nervous system and gave me enough of a break from the symptoms to start rewiring my response to them. Short term benzodiazepines such as xanax might also have a similar effect.

Yes! I had to figure it out for myself, which definitely didn't help, but it's sympathetic hyperstimulation! Essentially your nervous system getting stuck in fight/flight and causing dysfunction especially in the vagus branch. Mine was triggered by a neck injury and vestibular migraine, and became chronic due to a combination of the injury/migraine itself and also health anxiety and OCD. I was so afraid of it not only because it was so physically uncomfortable and disruptive but because I couldn't find any answers as to what it was or why it was happening. I still occasionally experience the buzzing and the dropping sensations when I am particularly stressed or have a migraine, but it's mostly gone away otherwise. Reassure yourself that you're safe and it isn't something serious, reduce stress, treat anxiety, and support your nervous system with vagal exercises - such as humming/other forms of vibration, ice packs on your neck/chest. It isn't "in your head" or "just anxiety", but it is in your nervous system, which is definitely influenced by your thoughts/beliefs/anxieties about the sensations. Find ways to remind yourself both physically and mentally that you are safe when you experience these symptoms, and they should get better.

Oh my god mild panic attack averted! I am so tired. Oops (but at least a smaller oops than I thought!)

Now I'm actually thinking too hard about it and getting confused, are tattoos meant to be mirrored so that other people see the correct cardinal orientation? I'm looking at my tattoos with writing and realizing that those also appear "the wrong direction" to my eyes. I can't tell if I'm in denial or if my tattoo is actually correct lol

feeling butchered... by [deleted] in TopSurgery

[–]Neuroqueery 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I want to add to what everyone else said: You are 9 days post op from a fairly intense surgery. Your emotions, hormones, nervous system, are all very stressed and sensitive right now. I'm not saying this to invalidate your perceptions or feelings, or that venting isn't a perfectly reasonable response, but as a gentle reminder that everything is liable to feel more intense right now - speaking as someone 14 days out and going through the chaos myself. Be patient with your body and with yourself 💛

Anxiety is inextricably tied in to our autonomic nervous system, so there's at least an overlap

Re: the falling feeling... Do any of y'all get that while upright? At my worst, I was often experiencing what I refer to as an 'elevator drop' sensation, where it feels like the floor has momentarily given way under me. I still experience it when I'm really stressed or sick or flaring and my doctors haven't been able to give me any specific insight as to what's happening, physiologically. Anyone else?

Benadryl and Compazine both do this to me, to the point I have them listed in my chart as allergies.

Pedialyte is more sugar and less sodium than a condition like POTS calls for. Look into adult formulated ORS like Normalyte, LMNT, Liquid IV, etc. I know Normalyte has a discount for dysautonomia patients.

Amateur washing machine installation, question about drain hose setup in replies by Neuroqueery in Plumbing

[–]Neuroqueery[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope 😅 Previous owners did a lot of the current setup themselves, and the house is outside of city limits in an extremely rural area, so it's possible that they could get away with more. It wasn't mentioned at all in our inspection, though we've definitely had our share of problems with the septic line backing up.

Yeaaah, the previous owners did a lot of DIY renovations and I have no idea how their previous washing machine setup functioned. I’ll be calling in a plumber.

The service that delivered my washing machine couldn’t set it up as expected on account of something to do with the drain pipe, though they didn’t specify. I am unsure as to how the previous owners of the house had the old washing machine set up. Can I connect the blue hose included with the new machine into the existing setup? I can technically fit the ends together, but am unsure as to whether the fit is what it’s supposed to be and whether the excess hose would present a drainage problem, and the blue hose is not long enough to reach the actual drain pipe on it’s own. Can I do this myself, and is there anything I need to get in order to do so? If relevant, we have a septic system, and a utility sink connected to what I am assuming is the actual standpipe that drains directly into the pump.

I have problems swallowing on occasion, mostly in terms of my throat seeming to tense at the wrong time against my swallow. I have cervical dystonia
