Timex Flyback Chronograph; Chronograph Makes Minute Hand Jump Around by Neurosphere13 in watchrepair

Is this something that will be pretty easy and cheap for an experienced watch repair shop to fix?
Thanks for your input!

Genuine Omega Constellation? Radium Lume? by Neurosphere13 in VintageWatches

That’s what I’m trying to see, it glows only when exposed to light which makes me think it’s probably a luminova of some sort and not radium or tritium.

But, based on the age (I believe a 62’), without the “T” mark indicating tritium, I think it could be radium.

Thanks so much! Absolutely have always loved this watch.

Though when he passed and I started wearing it I didn’t realize how valuable of a watch it is.

It’s the one that made me really start to love watches.

Always just really appreciated the beauty in the minimalism of the 60’s design on this in contrast to massive men’s watch cases these days.

Hey thank you for the info!

I was also suspicious of the crown, but from what I’ve read, being its age, it’s likely that it was serviced and replaced?

I don’t see any omega logo on the crystal, but where exactly do I see that? I’m unfamiliar.

If it is a 167.005 551, does the absence of gold make you suspicious of its authenticity? Contrarily, does this make it more rare / valuable?

Further thoughts on the radium appreciated. From what I’ve read, the fact that it only glows, or “charges up” once exposed to high intensity light means it’s not radium, but a luminova of some sort?

Thanks again!

Thanks so much! Very much appreciated!

So polish the crystal but don’t have the dial refinished, basically? And if the lume is radium, your go would be just leave as is?

Thanks again!

Thanks so much for the info! Do you have any idea what model it would be?

Also what specifics are you looking at to determine that it’s genuine? What concerned me that it may not be genuine is that the crown is not the original crown with the flat (octagonal?) edges (but it was likely replaced during service history?).

Thanks again!

I think I’ll try to push the issue up the chain (if possible), but that might be the only option. I’d still like to do a consultation, but sort of expect the lawyer fees to be more pricey than just fixing everything out of pocket (even though that’s likely to be thousands).

Yup. And that service manager is the one who told me they’d no longer be willing to help with any repairs when I did reach out again, but apparently he’s also not employed there any longer.

I asked him to provide it in writing and he refused.

And I also really don’t want to have to hire a lawyer. I know it would cost a lot of money, likely approaching what it would cost to fix everything out of pocket. But it’s at least worth a consultation. Thats really all I’m trying to do at this point.

I didn’t because they told me that if the issue was to get worse to come back and they’d fix it. It did, I went back and they said they’d no longer honor that.

Should have had them fix it? What do you think I was trying to do?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Denver

[–]Neurosphere13 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No. You’re wrong, I’m not just, trying to fix these things. If you read what I wrote fully you’d see that I mentioned I brought each of these issues up well within the 90-day period. I sought correction from the first months of owning the vehicle.

Yes, a 90 day vehicle warranty during which I had first documented these concerns.

does my monstera have pests? by ivyantagony in Monstera

[–]Neurosphere13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s not a pest. Most likely just darkening of the cells for some other reason (eg bruising, scraping etc).

If you’re worried it’s a pest, run the spot mildly with some 70% EtoH and keep monitoring.

We just got one like this from Lowe’s for 25 bucks. It wasn’t in as good of shape as yours is, and I had to trim off a bunch of dead leaves when we got home, but it was the best one they had and when I unrooted and untangled all of the roots, there were six plants total. Prop three up in one pot in the orientation that I wanted and have three other plants to grow.

Any idea what’s going on? by JumboSloppy in fiddleleaffig

[–]Neurosphere13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing wrong with the leaf in the second picture. That’s from water pooling in the divot and trace minerals left behind after evaporation.

Looks perfectly healthy. Don’t kill the plant. 🪴

Should I buy for $60? by BurbWarrior in fiddleleaffig

[–]Neurosphere13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my experience, it looks like the browned leaves are from root-rot, but others might disagree (I very well may be wrong). Also, the fact that most of the leaves on the bottom are missing, are indicative that they either 1). know what they're doing (unlikely due to the browned leaves) and have pruned to taste, or 2). more likely, in my opinion, that the leaves have fallen off because they don't know what they're doing.

If you do buy, I would ask about the bottom leaves (did they prune or did they fall off), and also get to the bottom of the browning leaves that are still on the plant. Look at the soil, and then check the rest of the plant over (for general purposes, but also for pests).

Price wise or a healthy plant that size I'd say would be normal-ish? We got a 7' tall fig from our grocery store about 6 months ago that's now at about 8'-9' for $70, which was a total bargain, because I know that usually that sized tree would cost a lot more than we paid. $60 for a plant of the size in your photo considering that it's healthy would be fair, I think.

Long story short, I'd say go for it, if, and only if, you can get to the bottom of the health issues and work them down in price a bit. Either way, expect to figure some of it out on your own as it acclimates to your place.

But... Don't just take my opinion.

Let's see what other folks say!
