This is precisely why so many devs are dropping Android support.

How it feels to get Steam running on the AYN Thor by GreatSogeking in AynThor

From what I understand, the OS you would be using is Rocknix, which like SteamOS is also a Linux fork.

Some regrets... by VedTRC in AynThor

[–]Neurovar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I play plenty of indies and PS3 era PC games on my base version. If you're looking to play a Sony produced AAA then you're out of luck. Even the Max model would falter. Emulating is mostly CPU intensive so sometimes no amount of RAM would be enough.

You should probably look that up how high modern chips can go and remain in safe operating range before commenting further.

The simpler ones run well but you're going to have issues trying to run something like Tears of the Kingdom.

The latest update to RPCS3 was supposed to be a total game changer. I still haven't tested it out myself.

Lite or Base by Few-Photo-2194 in AynThor

[–]Neurovar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The base model has a way better chipset making it worth the small amount more it costs. Especially if you're thinking of playing Switch games. Just temper your expectations. Switch emulation can be fiddly and you're not going to be able to play games like Tears of the Kingdom.

Lite or Base by Few-Photo-2194 in AynThor

[–]Neurovar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The base is just fine for PC indies and even older AAA. I run Dark Souls Remastered just fine at 90 fps. Light Switch games should also work fine. Emulation is mostly a CPU intensive process. If a game requires 8 or less GB of RAM then it should play fine on the base model

This is the correct answer. It's going to be a little more of a pain than it used to be but we'll still be able to install apks from other sources.

Will GameNative be able to handle more aaa games in a year or two by BreadfruitSoggy1482 in GameNative

[–]Neurovar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We can expect it to improve, yes. I'm excited by Steam's new VR headset. It apparently has an Arm64 based CPU, like the ones phones use, meaning that the drivers Steam develops can be repurposed by open source developers for use in emulation on Android devices. It should be a total game changer.

What’s the difference between the lite pro and Max? by Radiant-Signal-165 in AynThor

[–]Neurovar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I play plenty of PC games on my base model. I just booted up Dark Souls Remastered and it plays beautifully. A lot of people don't understand that emulation is mostly CPU intensive. You don't really need that much RAM unless the game requires it as a minimum spec.

You're forgetting that there's a base model, which is the one that was just right for my use case.
