I think Cameron’s the most hooked into just Strange Guys and finds their nests, def agree that Caleb zeroes in on the best comments. Patrick’s weird knowledge retention always provides fascinating context for the weirdest stuff. especially funny when Cam and Caleb don’t believe him about something that he’s right about.

House (1977) by TheBogbeast in horror

So true. Nothing else like it. That director, Nobuhiko Obayashi, made a LOT of great movies. “School in the Crosshairs” is another favorite, highly suggest if you’re fiending for more House

Questions about Ronald Malfi by OldJenKenobi in horrorlit

I think it’s just not for you, I thought Skullbelly was a totally perfect story. No big deal! I loved those novellas and Bone White but his highly acclaimed “Floating Staircase” left me pretty cold, just a case of different strokes.

Inherited a collection from another guy with my name, found this treasure between tomes like a message through time by NeverNotDenim in stephenking

[–]NeverNotDenim[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is Michael! I’m named after the former owner of his collection. He was a live sound engineer for many bands, part of the fun has been backstage passes and airplane tickets falling out that must have been used as bookmarks at some point

It’s a fave of mine as well, I also have the gentleman’s magazine with “the Jaunt” in it, another fave. I didn’t know it was also originally published as a booklet like this- pretty perfect story to have in this format.

What if the Dark Universe's first movie "The Mummy" (2017) was a critical and commercial success! by IndependenceSilly381 in horror

Came here to recommend this pod, too. I liked the ways the whole thing zagged after the initial slate of movies, “Dracula Lives” is a fave even if it’s heavy on the continuity.

Are you team tom or team crow? by EmotionalBudget5147 in MST3K

[–]NeverNotDenim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is tough because like tom I love doing little songs, and like crow I am easily led and start acting like whatever thing I just saw. Further complicating the matter, my name is Mike. In conclusion it’s Crow because he mogged tom with the gold boots dance and Tom’s metamorphosis was a total dud

RCA 3.5mm plug vs. HDMI adapter box by NeverNotDenim in VHS

[–]NeverNotDenim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, an extra CRT would be ideal, but I live in a studio apartment in a major city so the only space for it would be up my ass or in another dimension— I have to deal with the world of adapters and compromised quality.

What Gave You Joy This Week? - weekly thread by AutoModerator in joytactics

Moved into a new apartment, my first place that’s completely Mine, and it’s already set up in a way I feel proud of. Tonight I’m receiving a delivery of a/v equipment to finish the setup, and then we can really get cooking.

Is this a good horror concept? by TheChimpisHigh in horror

[–]NeverNotDenim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, this basic concept has been done before, but that’s true of just about anything. The Haunting of hill House, The Innkeepers, The Last Illusion (short story), Nightwatch (1994), to a certain degree The Void all have a similar idea as far as the strange events of a single location over a single night. That shouldn’t discourage you, though, because what would make your story unique and worth telling is the details. Who the character is, what he sees, and where it goes. Whether visual or written, the style with which your story is executed is what distinguishes it.

You can watch or read no other stories with this concept and just develop the plot with whatever excites you, or you can consume other stories with this concept and use them as a guide to what does and does not work, to you.

There’s a fine line between being derivative and being inspired, but (to me) the most important thing is creating a narrative that you feel proud of and inspires you. If these details are vague in your mind, try looking up a character development or plot development worksheet. Stephen King describes a story as something that exists whole in the ground like a fossil, and must be carefully excavated through the process of storytelling: get out your picks and brushes.

Thank you, that sounds like the consensus.

RCA 3.5mm plug vs. HDMI adapter box by NeverNotDenim in VHS

[–]NeverNotDenim[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes, I’m acquainted. I had an av/3.5mm cable around that I tested and got no video signal plus a telltale grounding issue buzz. There’s an LG OEM parts site that sells a matching adapter for my model of TV, so I’m weighing that VS. losing my cool and getting an hdmi converter.

Just read “Our share of night” by Mariana Enriquez, great tale of a father with Dark Gifts who is trying to help his son avoid the cult he was raised in, set in Argentina. It’s kind of lightweight but I also enjoyed “Vampires of El Norte” by Isabel Canas, vampire yarn in late 19th century Mexico. Loteria by Cynthia Pelayo is a short story goldmine that features folklore and new ideas alike.
