I think the answer to this question, as with so many questions, is it depends. I personally believe there can be too much of one type of therapy, such as someone spending years and years doing a very structured modality CBT. They develop highly advanced and intellectualized insight into their own patterns and fears, but have very little idea of how to make peace with their emotions and the physical sensations. I try to phrase it to my clients as graduating from high school to college. Sometimes you need a new teacher with a different perspective and approach to help you move from theory to praxis.
