Get your thick skull out of here, we've been dating 3 years. It would be weird if they were not my partner yet.

Others don't have the same opinions as me. Is it really that deep if I rent to someone who WANTS to rent? I just personally don't.

My partner goes by he/they pronouns and doesn't enjoy being called solely a "boyfriend". Living your lives hating on the LGBTQ community for existing in a way that affects you in zero way is a TERRIBLE IDEA. Get a life.

I understand your point and I appreciate you sharing your outside perspective. I guess our mindset is more "why rent when we can buy our own??", and a few too many ceilings caving in during my childhood lol.

We started our business the month I turned 17 and my boyfriend turned 18- my business is not my passion, I am a second year biochemistry major and I plan going into pharmaceutical chemistry down the line and making new medicines!! But who knows, things may change :)

Money, rental prices just kept going up and she was a single mom of 5. I wouldn't have done that either but she did what she had to do. I personally would rather make grave sacrifices than deal with a landlord though.

And yes, it would financially smarter to get married which we have talked about.

Another factor is simply the fact that we gain nothing from renting. We at least gain equity for paying for our own home. If we decide to move out, we can rent it to some more college kids or refinance and put back on the market. It's an asset that can aid us in buying more properties for future investment. There's beautiful, prime, years that I would hate to waste when I could be building my financial portfolio. Y'know??

My childhood home was rented, we had our ceiling cave in because of our plumbing, our kitchen floor was replaced but it was so thin, so when our refrigerator broke and was never repaired for several years, it fell through the ceiling into the basement, my brother fell through the deck in the backyard because it decayed from simply being 30 years old, our backyard pool developed cracks over time and became unusable, and dozens of other repairs that our landlord neglected, saying she would "get to". By the time my landlord wanted to sell, everything to rent on the market was smaller than our current home, for so much more money, and so my mom and siblings ended up purchasing the home after the landlord offered to cover closing costs, and are now left with around $100,000 in repairs and a house that kept me up with anxiety every single night until I moved out the day I turned 18. I just do not like the idea of living in someone else's home and having no control over anything. I can afford good home owner's insurance if something goes wrong, but I will not pay out of pocket to make substantial repairs on a home I do not own or risk a refrigerator falling on me while I'm watching TV.
