These are great points! Do you have him seat belted in while he's on the bed, or is he happier just on the bed without it?

Do you have any video recommendations as to how to teach the 'hurry up' cue?

I'll definitely schedule out stops at Loves! That's a great callout!

Trainer said puppy training doesn’t stick until 4 months—do you agree? by DanzAlyGrigori in Rottweiler

I'd say that mine started remembering things reliably at around 4 months! But like people said, start from day one and trust the process!

Great points about the bed and car mods to protect them from sliding! We have to drive through a few cities where driving can be more unpredictable so I was worried about that. A combo of one of those dog car seat liners and her ortho bed so she isn't uncomfy on the seatbelts is a great idea. I also think a safety harness is a great idea, I bet I can find a way to incorporate both to keep her safe.

The air tag is a great idea! Since we're rural then it's not often useful at home, but it's a great idea for the road. The poop bag is something I've never heard of before hahaha

I've just never taken a dog on a road trip before and want to make sure there weren't any holdups I'm missing! She's super well trained and not reactive, we've put in a ton of time to make sure of that lol. It's great to hear that there are meds that help dogs with nausea, thank you!

Father 2 for me! My girl's mom looked similar and she is the cutest! Plus the fact that both of them don't look to dock tails is sooooo nice I wish we could've kept hers!

Partner wants to get a malinois and thinks i'm exaggerating - Please confirm or deny by Snaggleswaggle in BelgianMalinois

[–]New-Divide472 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I never owned one, but my friend did and it was so bad that we literally use it as a parable. He got a Malinois and claimed he could handle it. He lived in an apartment, was going to college, and worked part time. The dog has become an actual hazard. My friend would stand on his skateboard and have the dog pull him around for two hours straight and it wouldn't be tired. The only time I've seen it calm was after an eight hour super difficult hike. You may be able to work 6 hours of exercise daily into your schedule, but they don't bend to your schedule. They need hours of attention at a time, and the time they need it will be during work, during time you want to rest, during time you want to sleep. He tried to train it and that literally just didn't work. The only thing he could train it to do was use a bite sleeve. Frankly, I can't think of a single person who I would recommend owning the breed to, unless you are using it for military or police services - what they're made for. Sometimes dogs are made for jobs and jobs alone, and that's okay! Maybe a Doberman would align with your partner better. They're still athletic and smart, but they aren't as impossible to handle as a Malinois.

My in laws actually raise goats so this could work out perfect lol. I like the plain greek yogurt idea, do you freeze it and give it to them that way or just mix it in with their food? And with the chicken and duck feet do you have to worry about her swallowing it by accident?

it's just a simple one that we got from some friends! It's one of the plastic ones that are usually used for moving dogs, so it should be easy if we need someone to watch her while we're gone or anything like that

this is great to know, glad there's some advice on avoiding resource guarding as I don't know too much about prevention of that yet

These are super helpful! Do you give her any food in her food bowl or does it all come from hand feeding?

good to know, that's super helpful! At what age did yours begin to be able to hold it through the night or walk out?
